BLOOD & BED BUGS. ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!!!! ZERO STARS!
Upon entering, the lobby looks very nice and appears like the stay will be nice. But DON'T let it fool you. This place is a complete sh** show. I was traveling from out of town (Nov 9th-12th, 2018) with my family and stayed here only because my cousin was getting married at the venue next door and this is the hotel that was reserved for the wedding. Otherwise, this would not have been an option. Not so much of anything close to a continental breakfast. Spoiled fruit, smelly/hard bread, broken waffle maker and microwaved eggs. They should not even advertise that they provide breakfast. It gets worse. My sister and I were bitten excessively and realized right before check out that we were bitten by bed bugs! We alerted management immediately and there was absolutely NO urgency. I requested to return to our room to take photos and once I pulled back the layers of sheets there were blood everywhere, large yellow stains and hair from previous guest all over the bed. The manager, Theresa Moy, responded “Oh, the sheets have been cleaned so they are fine and the mattress has a protector on it.” After I pulled back the sheets I asked her to unzip the mattress protector and I discovered about a 6-10in blood stain. Not once did she become shocked at the condition of the bedding nor apologize for our experience. She also initially refused to provide any type of refund. She said she would contact Orkin to come out the next day but scheduled them for Monday 11/19/18 and did not report that she needed emergency service. After speaking with Bonnie at the local Orkin office myself, I confirmed that she kept her original regular service date and did not inform them that a guest had been bitten. I informed Theresa that I spoke to Orkin and she said she did not request it because it would have been an extra fee for emergency service. Crazy right?? Staff was very resistant to give any corporate numbers. We asked for Theresa’s boss and she said she did not have one. it was later discovered that there is a general manager and it is her husband, Willie Moy. He still has not reached out to my family in regards to this incident to offer any type of apology. And obviously, it is clear why. After pressing the issue we finally received contact with corporate but they were also of no use. This is beyond just a bed bug complaint; this is a health hazard complaint due to the unsanitary condition of the bedding, bed bug bites as well as hotel policies and disregard for ensuring the health and safety of its guests! Corporate noted that it is up to management to handle the situation. The back office is also poorly maintained and looks like some type of nasty, unorganized storage unit. It appears as though the entire hotel is in shambles. Oh, and don’t request a foldaway bed because there was one in the hallway with no bedding and it was completely filthy. Please avoid giving any of your money to this establishment as their customer service is VERY poor and they do not know how to properly manage their disgusting hotel and provide adequate services for their guests. If you want to be exposed to other individual’s blood, be my guest. But make sure you check out the proof with my pictures. If I could upload my...
Read moreClean and modern, fast wifi, freshly remodeled. Also, I love how the building and parking lot are aligned with neighboring buildings in such a way that the worst of the wind is blocked on most days. Why can't all of Chicago be built like that? The Hilton in Oak Lawn was fancy, but its unique architecture and isolation from its surroundings turned the parking lot into an ice hurricane that gave me mild frostbite and nearly blew me over. I'll take a smaller room and fewer amenities over that weather mess any day. All of this is why I'm rating 2 stars instead of 1.
Now, on to the big problem that kills this otherwise 4-5 star review: the blueberry yogurt in the breakfast bar. Cheap yogurt often curdles with acidic flavors, such as blueberry, raspberry, or lime, because too much fat was taken out of the milk, and not enough stabilizer/emulsifier was added back to compensate. I'm not rich, so I'm familiar with this. It didn't smell or taste bad, at least no more than the typical sour smell of yogurt, and the less acidic strawberry yogurt wasn't curdled, so I ate it anyway. Big mistake, in hindsight it was definitely too curdled to just be the acidity of the blueberries, it was bad for sure. Just under 3 days later, I was sick. 12 hours of diarrhea and vomiting just ended on my first day back home in Virginia, so I've regained enough strength and concentration to type this review.
I don't expect a 2-star hotel to serve Dannon or something, if I wanted that I'd have paid for it, and I'm not going to blame the hotel for this because I don't know if it was their fault. I've eaten tons of other stuff before and since I had the yogurt for breakfast, including sketchy gas station food, and I have no way of knowing if I even had food poisoning at all instead of just 12-hour GI flu. That said, they definitely need to replace their...
Read moreLet's start with the phenomenal first. BRENDA; she makes the stay feel like being back home with grandma, momma, and big sis. Her skills in preparing, cooking, and displaying the multiple selection of fantastic hot and cold food makes you feel like your loved. She has the greatest disposition, smile, bright eyes, and professionalism. FOOD IS THE WAY TO THE HEART. She got mine. Now the main entrance is very clean and plenty of open sitting for socializing, waiting, and eating since there's no longer a swimming pool. The front desk staff seem pleasant. I personally think them should tint the windows on the workout room area considering it's visible as soon as you walk in. ( not a sight I would like to see or be seen) that's just me.
The room very nice considering there was a representation about this tier of hotel. It's VERY CLEAN minimal carpeting which allows the room to stay fresh and smell clean. The bedding well made by the housekeeper. The bathroom shocked me "finally" a stand up shower with a glass door that kept the water inside the shower basin. The entire bathroom was extremely clean. There's a large screen television seem like the length of the entire dresser, microwave, mini fridge great working order. The usual amenities coffee maker, ironing board needs a pad. (suggestion). The wall art fit the scene and a full length mirror for last minute check before exiting. I GIVE THIS LOCATION A 10 out of 10.
I think they should offer a shuttle to and from the MIDWAY Airport since their stating their "BEST WESTERN MIDWAY INN & SUITES. This would allow more people to feel at home under the at home feeling of "BRENDA" and the amenities. I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK AND TELLING MORE TO STAY AT THE "BEST" Western with the amazing "BRENDA's" MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR STAY WITH THE...
