This hotel had some good points, but we will never be staying there again. On the plus side, it's a perfect location near Midway airport, but without much airport noise. it's very new and it was nice inside the rooms and the lobby. Cucumber or lemon flavored water was always available in the lobby, which was nice. The Placery staff were quite friendly and the breakfast buffet is better than average. There was shredded cheese for the eggs and fresh oatmeal ready with lots of toppings. There were also waffles, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and the scrambled eggs were fresh cooked. The food was a little bit cooler than it could be, and I wish the breakfast went till 930 rather than nine. Also, there's always this 80s and 90s pop music playing in the background even at six in the morning when you're at breakfast and all throughout the main level, even in the bathrooms. This started to really grate at times during our 5-day stay when I just wanted quiet.||||My family of 5 has previously stayed at Residence Inn, which is right next door and is a "sister" hotel, and that room had a kitchenette. The Hyatt Place suite we stayed in only has a refrigerator, no microwave, and there is a flimsy glass separator from the pull-out couch area, so it doesn't really feel like there's as much privacy as in other suites we've stayed in.||||With all this, I might still have considered staying there again when we go back to visit family, except for two experiences. First, there was a huge snafu with our room reservation. I booked our room through the Hyatt website, and then when our plans changed and we wanted to get there a day early, I couldn't figure out how to do it on the website without making a totally different reservation, so I called the hotel directly and was told that they had added that additional day. When I didn't receive a confirmation email in the next couple of days and it was not showing up on my online reservation, I called back and was assured that I had a room for the earlier night. Then, the day before we were set to arrive and while we were already on our road trip, I get this call from the hotel from the person who claimed to have booked my additional day saying, "I see you have a request for an additional day in your notes, but unfortunately, we are fully booked up for tomorrow so we can't accommodate you." This might not have been so bad, except that my minor child was flying into Chicago and we really had to be there to pick her up! So it wasn't only an inconvenience to me, but it ended up being difficult for my extended family who had to pick her up from the airport and keep her overnight. (There were literally no other rooms available in the city for under $500 by this time...memorial day!) Also, I spoke with a different Front Desk person on two occasions trying to get a room for that earlier night and she was seriously rude to me both times. When I asked if they could provide a discount or something for this very stressful change of plans, she said no, but that I could get a comped glass of wine from The Placery. This was in no way a satisfactory solution, but in the interests of putting the mess behind us, I didn't pursue it further.||||Second, there was something wrong with the treadmills in the exercise room. I used one of the 2 treadmills, and a pop-up asked on four occasions during my short walk, whether there was still a user on the device. This might be the reason why, when another member of my family was running on the treadmill, it stopped suddenly and the person fell, breaking both their front teeth, which resulted in an emergency dentist bill of $900. Again, I told the Front Desk person (the same one who told me erroneously that she had added the extra day to my reservation), and she seemed oddly unempathetic but wrote a note for the maintenance staff to take a look at the treadmills and make sure that they were calibrated correctly. I don't know if that worked because we were afraid to try the treadmills...

Will never EVER stay at this...
Read moreI booked my room two weeks in advance, after taking a tour with one of the managers. I clearly stated that it was to be an overnight spa party for my daughters birthday. He approved my reasoning & went on to tell me to book online because it had a cheaper rate. Upon check-in things seemed to be going pretty well. The spa party was over about 8 and the girls just wanted to play in the swimming pool for the remainder of the evening. The pool (capacity of 14, clearly counted 38 at one point) closes at 10pm so it seemed perfect timing for them to go to sleep shortly after eating the pizza we ordered. I had 3 adult friends of mines in the room at that time because we sat at the bar for over 30 minutes just to be acknowledged, to no avail. So we went up to the room to have some of the coolers that I brung with. From the time that we entered our room after pool closure, there was a very loud baby crying next door, children running up & down the hallway & knocking on doors & running. So about 10:30, we got a knock on the door telling us that we were too loud (seeing as how we can't hear ourselves outside the door, that may have been true). So, the adults all proceeded to leave because they weren't spending the night anyway. But at 10:42 we got yet another knock on the door asking us to leave because we were too loud. Now I KNOW that was untrue because myself & the girls were just sitting and watching TV while the other ladies got their jackets on and prepared to leave. Hector (not sure of his title) had some words with one of the adults leaving, that was IN THE HALLWAY & NO LONGER APART OF MY PARTY. But obviously she said something to get under his skin and he told five 13 year old girls & myself that we had to leave their hotel in the cold in the middle of the night. I am in no way saying that we weren't loud before the first warning, but I know for a fact that we weren't the second time. Absolutely NO parent wants to have their child experience the police being called & having to be kicked out of a hotel on their 13th birthday. After we packed, I had a chance to speak with their in house security & he stated that there was a lady next door to us with a new born baby that was complaining about the noise. Hmmmmm, guess I should've complained about their whiny baby before they complained about us. There is no way that if I owned your facility, I would put a birthday party next to someone with a newborn baby. Also, there were more parties in the hotel than mines, it's not rocket science, maybe you should put them next to each other where no one will complain about the noise. This was a scarring experience for my daughter, she says "I'm mad because we didn't do anything and got kicked out, it makes me wish that we would've did something to get kicked out for". The hotel is clean, but the the treatment was horrible. If there were cameras in the hallways, I believe we would've never been removed. We were being blamed for noises that we weren't making. This hotel puts rules in place but only enforce those that they feel they want at any given time. Please beware & if you do decide to stay at this hotel, make sure you complain about EVERY little noise you hear, before you get kicked out for snoring. I'm disappointed & my daughter doesn't understand why this had to happen to her, so I will continue to remind her that life isn't fair & that there is nothing that we can do to fix it. She was so embarrassed that her friends experienced this on her birthday. They spent the remainder of the evening consoling my crying daughter. So thanks Hyatt, for making me spend the last two days with my child explaining your...
