La Pasteria is a nice, traditional Italian restaurant in downtown Summit, NJ. Their food and service are what I remember most and these will bring me back for another very enjoyable meal. Be sure to use the parking in the back. The decor is pedestrian. The tables and chairs are a little better than average. They have a regular menu and a daily menu which is just as large, adding depth to the offerings. The staff is attentive as you want them to be yet they will give you space and let you go at your own pace. The meals were well prepared and plated. They have the usual Italian dishes and several more that are worth a try. Live a little. La Pastaria has an unremarkable physical ambiance, but the food and the service raise the overall experience up to five stars.

We've been here three times for dinner. What's great about this place - plenty of parking, convenient location, patio option in the summer, romantic ambiance, bring your own wine and a service has always been pretty good. The menu has a good selection of Italian dishes but we found that the food was lacking flavour. The only thing we really enjoyed were the salads but the main entrees were not flavorful and at one time my chicken dish was tough and hard to cut. The saving grace was that the server offered to replace the food with the best dish on the menu at no cost. He was right, that was an amazing dish. I was impressed by his commitment to good service. So, I would keep coming back.

Warning: do not order from here. Shady, shady business practices. I ordered a chicken parmigiana and was charged a $4.50 adjustment and $0.30 adjustment tax. I could not understand where this charge came from so I called the restaurant. The girl on the line informed me that the charge was correct because I indicated that I wanted angel hair instead of penne. Absolutely disgusting how they will do whatever they can to tack on absurd charges and hope their customers don't notice. Order was placed on ubereats on 2/11/21 but I forgot to write the review until now.

We've been on the lookout for a local Italian place since we moved in a couple years ago and somehow only came across La Pastaria tonight. I think it's safe to say our search is over as we had a great meal delivered to our door this evening.

First off, the amount of food you get for like price is pretty outstanding. Rare these days, honestly. For $75 we got 2 large salads (a meal in and of themselves), 3 antipasto (zuppa di mussels pomodoro, risotto balls, grilled vegetables) and a large fettuccine alfredo. The fettuccine was enough for both myself and my husband, plus we had enough leftover for another full serving. The alfredo sauce was simple, exactly as it should be. The mussels were cooked amazingly well, especially considering we had the meal delivered. The broth was perfect and we were thrilled to have been given bread to soak it up with. Only downside was getting 3 unopened mussels, but it kinda goes with the territory. Oh, and the muscles were the biggest I've ever seen. The risotto balls were good, and though I prefer mine to be crisp, these came covered in marinara. I should have asked for it on the side but it really wasn't a big deal. The grilled veg was good as well, decent char, though somewhat plain. It would have been nice if it was served with some fresh mozzarella, but I enjoyed eating it with the alfredo. I'm saving the salads for my lunch for the next couple days, but they each look amazing.

Overall, we were really impressed with La Pastaria and truly appreciate having a good Italian meal delivered to our door on a Sunday evening. Life with a newborn prevents me from being in the kitchen as much as usual, and this meal hit the spot for us. Many thanks, we look forward to dining in...

The food is great..the service is very good but think it's unacceptable when a restaurant charges you extra for every little thing, i.e. instead of red sauce on my side of pasta, I asked for garlic and oil. I think any good restaurant should accommodate and try to please. They said that it would cost an additional $4.95 for the garlic and oil. If you prefer spaghetti instead of ziti they informed that that will also be an additional $4.95. So for spaghetti with garlic and oil instead of ziti with red sauce you have to pay an additional $10. They also charge an extra $3.00 charge if you share a dish; and also a 3% extra charge if you use a credit card. This restaurant is a bit pricy to begin with with most entries around "$25 to $29. We had first gone there for lunch when there was only a few tables occupied. We enjoyed the food and the place. Then we went back several times for dinner. I could really love this restaurant because of the food but really get turned off when they keep telling me they are charging extra for any small accommodation... We had the grilled vegetable platter, the eggplant Parmesan a salad and the grouper special with the side of pasta with garlic and oil and an espresso. The food is very good - the multiple extra charges,...

We hosted a private party with over 60+ guests. The menu options we chose for our guests included rice balls as an appetizer. Each table varied in size and number of adults. We provided the restaurant all details a week prior including the table layout which was requested with the number of adults and kids at each table.

The table I personally sat at included 6 adults (includes myself) and 4 kids. We were served 4 rice balls. This happened at several tables and when guests asked for more they were declined. The same thing occurred when the Family style entrées arrived. Speaking for my own table, we were served four pieces of chicken parmigiana for six adults.

Other guests shared similar experiences at other tables after hearing following the party.

I followed up with the restaurant where I was told each guest was “entitled” to one rice ball and one piece of chicken. Although that still seemed odd to me as its family style and there should be ENOUGH to feed a party, there was still not enough for each adult at each table with what they said. The owner offered a gift certificate in which we declined the offer as we do not...
