I've stayed at this hotel many times (including a months-long stay prior to an overseas move 30 years ago), though not in the past 10 years or so. The lobby is large and beautiful with a bar that is a popular spot, even for locals. The restaurant is great as well, though we didn't eat there this time. Pricey, but delicious. ||The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We were on the top floor with a great view. I was disappointed with the decor in the room, though, which was a light taupe--walls, floors, everything except the white sheets on the bed. I know the minimalist aesthetic appeals to some guests and is becoming more and more typical for southern California, but a little color would have made a difference. I personally prefer more warmth in decor. The floors in both hotels we stayed at on this trip have removed carpet and switched to vinyl plank flooring. More sanitary for sure, but adds to the lack of warmth. The bathroom was lovely and there was plenty of counterspace for toiletries and other essentials. ||The TV was difficult to figure out and when the engineer came (promptly) to help us with it he showed us how to access basic cable and said the in-room movies weren't working at the moment. Netflix is available, but only if the guest has a personal account with which to log in. Internet is free for Bonvoy members, but it otherwise $14.95 per day ($17.95 for "enhanced" internet). Considering the price of the room, paying for internet seems egregious. ||We stayed at a Best Western in the San Diego area on this trip that cost $70 less and was nearly identical to this room and had free wi-fi and a phenomenal free, full breakfast. The only difference was the Marriott's fancy lobby, a couple of bathrobes in the closet, and more counterspace in the bathroom. If location matters to you, the hotel is next to a huge shopping mall and a very short drive to King's Harbor in Redondo Beach. It's also about 15 minutes away from the stunning Palos Verdes Peninsula. There are a number of fine restaurants in the nearby as well. In summary: clean comfortable room (though bare-bones), pleasant and responsive staff, beautiful lobby/bar/restaurant, and excellent location. ||Interestingly, I had originally booked a less expensive hotel (Howard Johnson) that was literally across the street. When we arrived we found it to be quite rundown and it felt unsafe. So we canceled the room (hats off to HJ for not charging us) and booked the Marriott last-minute. It was certainly a big improvement, but because of the bare-bones room it didn't feel like enough of an upgrade to merit being nearly...
Read moreWe got a late start getting to the hotel on September 2nd. I thought the accommodations we asked for would not be able to be met because we were going to be so very late. I had originally requested a room not far from the elevators so when we got there so late Saturday night I thought there is no way we're going to be able to get what we wanted, because there are so many people at this convention all those rooms will be taken by now. To our happy surprise, our room on 15th floor right next to the elevators was ready for us Our reservationist listened to our needs and responded in kind. We were told however, there were no guarantees. We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years when we walked into the hotel this time we could see they had a major renovation that had taken place. It was lovely on first impression. Everything was bright and clean looking there are few things I miss one of them was the waterfall wall that you saw when you first walked in. It used to change colors. Other then that, I have no other complaints everything at the hotel is wonderful everything we asked for they provided for us without a grumble. The staff is extremely helpful so very nice they were able to direct us to exactly where we needed to go if we got a little turned around to the new place pretty much as the same but they revamped the restaurant and it's very Stark and cleaning you walk in and it's it's clean and you know it. The food wasn't bad it was it was pretty good however they've done a lot of innovative things with their Foods and I would like to see them bring back a few tried-and-true dishes. That way everyone will get what they want. Expanding their menu I'm sure will come in time. We're just going to have to check back from time to time and see what they've added to the menu overall it was good. We had a wonderful time. The room we stayed in was lovely they were extremely clean they were very well vacuumed and dusted. I am the one that sees all the extra nitpicky things that aren't done usually for example it drives me to distraction when the corners of the room are filthy and the edges makes me want to bring my own vacuum cleaner sometimes. However, this was not the case this place was spotless and I'm so very grateful for that the guys and gals that clean the rooms, they take great pride in what they do. I walked into the bathroom and it was clean...that was a nice feeling...the redesign of the pool area is cool .we will be...
Read moreI highly enjoyed my stay at the Marriott in Torrance. I lived in the South Bay up until a month ago where I had to move to Texas, so when I had to make a trip back and stay in a local hotel... I didn't even know this hotel was here, but I will definitely return if I need to travel again. The bell hop was very accommodating and helped me with my luggage immediately. He was very kind and gave me a water because he could see me struggling. (I had just gotten of a 15 hour flight from Australia whilst fighting a horrible head cold.) The front desk woman was not helpful, however. My mother had arranged the stay for me because of how much I'd done already and paid with her card as a treat for me. However, as nice as I was and I gave her my ID and everything... she wouldn't let me into my room until the card paid for the room was there in person. I know she saw I was struggling and refused to do anything about it, even just the smallest amount of kindness would've sufficed until (thankfully) my mom was in the area and could be there in 30mins... but still I had to sit in the lobby, looking AND feeling terrible. The bell hop was the only one to check on me and made sure I was hydrated and he would wait until my mom got there to help me. THAT is quality service. To go above and beyond for someone by not much effort, but the smallest bit of empathy and compassion is incredibly valued. Besides the rude front desk woman, the stay was very pleasant. My room was lovely and the bed was fantastic! Incredibly comfy, feathery-soft pillows on a king size bed with silky sheets and a not too heavy bed cover to stay comfortable and not overheated. The A/C was very fast to cool/heat the room and wasn't loud when it came on because I believe it was central. That is very rare in California, and I appreciated it highly. Overall, the bathroom was decent, but definitely needs an upgraded paint job on the walls, especially the door of my bathroom because it was chipping in areas. However, I really enjoyed the space there was for the desk in my room with a lower sliding desk so I could eat and watch shows on my laptop. I didn't use the TV whilst I was there, but I really did appreciate the Youtube, Hulu, and Netflix additions on there. Many hotels need to update/upgrade to those additions because it is now 2017 and it's time to get on with the times, so that was a very wonderful amenity. The in-room dining was spectacular for food & service. I really...
