Usually I love staying at a Holiday Inn Express. The clean rooms and complimentary hot breakfast at an affordable price are great for me. However, this hotel did not live up to such standards as I have come to expect.
On my first night here there was an issue with the toilet and someone from the front desk came up to have a look at it. As it turns out, the toilet wasn't broken, just not working the way it should. One might think that would be a good reason to move a guest to a room with a fully functioning toilet, however no move was made by the desk agent to do so. I asked to be moved and finally was taken to another room.
When I stepped off the elevator to my new room I was overwhelmed by the smell of smoke permeating the entire third floor. Not only that, other guests on the floor were very loud. I should mention it was 2am at this point. To say I did not sleep well would be a vast understatement.
As if that weren't enough, I was awakened earlier than planned by the housekeeping staff knocking on the door at 8:30am. I was under the impression the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door meant just that. Apparently not here. Clearly they didn't get the message because a few hours later the housekeeping woman called the phone in the room asking when I would be out to clean the room. I felt this was rude and excessive.
I would like to report that my stay improved from there, but I was bothered every day by the housekeeping staff before 10am. One morning while I was at breakfast, my bed was stripped, but not remade by the time I got back. In the hotel's defense, they thought I was checking out that day, but why are you in my room stripping the bed two hours before checkout? Why are you knocking on the doors before check out any day, for that matter?
I'm not an early riser so I don't get down to breakfast when the food is freshest, so for that I will not fault the hotel. However, every morning that I went to breakfast, the staff was waiting in the breakfast room socializing and waiting to clean up the breakfast food. I, for one, don't think that is appropriate. Breakfast should be a time to relax and greet the day, not hear the gossip of the hotel staff.
The room was clean enough. The bathroom was a little small, but serviceable. The bed was harder than I would like, but that is a matter of taste. Wifi worked with no problems and the free on-demand on the TV was a very...
Read moreNot what I am use to when I stay at IHG. I arrived late at the hotel and I had to wait in this very small entrance to be buzzed in. That made me nervous. Finally a man came and opened the door. I asked why the locked door. He explained that the hotel gets unsavory characters walking in from time to time and asked me to make sure I locked my vehicle. Yikes!
The bathroom was not very clean. You could see the black mold upper edge of toilet bowl. The shower walls had something funky splattered on it, red in color.
The shower hissed loudly. If i pushed the stopper down and then raised it back up for the shower to stream it would stop hissing for a few minutes but would start back up again.
Breakfast area i cleaned up an area both mornings. The crock pot like container that stored the oatmeal leaked water all over the floor. i only noticed it when i felt something hot dripping on my foot. i grabbed napkins and cleaned it as well as informed the kitchen lady. On my last day there, I was trying to eat my breakfast and the counter person along with two of the kitchen ladies decided to have an open drama conversation (right in the center of the eating area) about some men barging in the hotel, bossing her around. The one lady said she was startled and didnt have back up. This loud conversation went on and on. People in the breakfast area were looking around at each other wondering why are you all in here and broadcasting this loudly. i eventually grabbed my breakfast and went to my room.
The pro's to my stay was that the bed was comfy, breakfast was tasty as it always is, close to airport and the price. However there are other IHG properties near that I will look at staying next time when I visit in...
Read moreYou came to Rochester on business staying at this hotel. Having grown up in Rochester right around the corner from Greece. It was a nice visit home. The staff in this hotel are outstanding! During my stay I even received a text asking how my stay was. I always suspect these kind of text messages are not really read by anybody. So I texted back and said if they responded to me by saying Go Bills I'd leave a review. Although I was doing this to be kind of silly, it does serve the purpose to show that this hotel actually takes the time to read their comments and appreciate their guests, which I find is a rare quality these days. I would like to point out a few things that stood out to me. My company rented me a double Queen room, I always find these rooms to be a bit cool. So I take the blanket off the second bed and put it on the first bed. After the first night, instead of making the second bed with the new blanket, the bed I used was now made perfectly with two blankets instead which was very impressive to me. My first night I left some money on the bedside when I returned from work everything was still accounted for. On day two I left my Xbox One headset and controller underneath the TV again I came back everything was in place and accounted for which I feel speaks highly to the staff's professionalism and trust. I'd also like to give a shout out to their staff in the morning who always greeted me with a smile exceedingly pleasant even at 6:00 a.m. honestly you couldn't ask for a better stay! Overall I enjoyed 4 days with them and each day was outstanding. Well done...
