Taco Tuesday. What a mess. I walk in and the place is loud and offensive with a sports bar feel (a converted MacGregors) I asked to sit outside, and the server was reluctant to seat me outside because it was raining, even though there was covered seating. It was blissfully quiet outside.
I get a good jalapeño margarita, which was the source of the 1 star. If I could give zero, I would have.
When my 2 friends arrived, they ordered two tacos with one including rice and beans and the other with fried ice cream, and I ordered 3 tacos.
The free “salsa” was a tasteless and confusing tomato purée. The refried beans with vegetables were odd, but ok. I wonder if we were intended to mix them into the tomato purée?
The queso fundido was presented like fajitas with flour tortillas? We found it difficult to eat with chips. The flavor was ok but the chorizo was doing all the heavy lifting and the most flavorful thing we had.
That was about it for the rest of the night. We waited more than an hour for our tacos. We waited and waited. Finally we had enough. I had to chase down our server and ask her to make our order to go as we had somewhere to be at 730, and we arrived at 545.
When our order arrived at the table, it was all wrong. Each container had three tacos. One friend didn’t get their rice and beans, and the other friend didn’t get her fried ice cream. The bill mirrored what was in the boxes and the margarita and queso fundido, so we were completely confused at how they messed up our order. In too much of a hurry to run out of the place we just accepted what was presented. Who knows how long it would have taken to fix that mess.
In a hurry, I had to go inside to track down our waitress in the now packed restaurant. I asked the hostess if she could ring me up, but she said she could not. When they did track her down, they apologized and gave me a coupon for $10 off a $50 order, and $20 off $100. I plan on never returning to this restaurant, so this coupon was worthless.
The tacos we’re mediocre and bland. There are so many better options in the area. Taco Bell would have been more appealing.
I recommend sticking with small places with small menus. So many restaurants try to please everyone instead of focusing on doing a few dishes exceptionally well. I guess this restaurant will fit right in with all the...
Read moreMy dad and I have been to Mi Rancho Alegre a few times before and always thought that the service was okay, but going there for dinner last night was the first time that restaurant really disappointed us. It appeared that they were understaffed, and my dad and I had to wait at least 20 minutes before somebody came by our table to even take our drink order. Oh, and we were seated at a booth right next to the bar, so we could see that our so-called waiter was apparently also the bartender. In the meantime, my dad and I ran out of chips and salsa and were never offered more while we waited practically an hour for our main meals to arrive. Having a feeling our food would be cold by the time we got it and getting tired of waiting, we got up to leave, but we stopped by the host/hostess counter to at least pay for our drinks. The one hostess at the cash register didn't seem to know how to even ring up our drink order. Then one of the other hostesses who seemed like she might've been a manager came by to see what was going on. When my dad and I explained that waiting an hour for our meals to be prepared was unacceptable, not only was the "manager" hostess not being understanding or apologetic about our situation, she had the nerve to try arguing with us and kept on repeating that our food was coming out "right now". My dad finally just took out a 20 dollar bill, laid it on the counter, and said "Look, this should cover the drinks we ordered. We're leaving now", and all the two hostesses at the counter said was "Okay". After this experience, my dad and I don't think we'll be coming back to Mi Rancho Alegre anytime soon. We've gotten way better service at Los Gallos, Margarita's, and Adelita's, and their margaritas taste a lot better than the ones at Mi Rancho Alegre, too. If the employees at Mi Rancho Alegre want to ensure that they don't lose business due to fewer and fewer customers coming by, then I suggest they get their act together and maybe get some retraining on how to properly run and manage a...
Read moreWe decided to try the new restaurant in Greece, New York, M Rancho Alegre, on the spur of the moment for lunch. From the time we walked in the door we were impressed with the festive interior design and the very friendly and welcoming staff. The dining rooms have a lot of beautifully carved wood booths. The bar is large and inviting.
Our server was friendly, helpful and very polite. He helped us with questions on the menu and sauce options, etc.
He brought chips, salsa, and the most delicious dish of pureed beans, garnished with a crumbly Mexican cheese and onions. Although I have never understood the interest in refried beans, this dish changed my mind on what is possible when they are prepared, right! These are the caviar of beans!
When the food arrived, it was plated beautifully, and the aroma was amazing. I had a thin, but large steak (maybe a flank) that was seasoned and cooked perfectly at medium rare. It came with two sides, salad, tortillas, and sauces. It was delicious! I cleaned my plate! My wife ordered a chicken quesadilla that she loved!
We had an amazing dessert of churros that had a soft creamy center, wipped cream, chocolate, and a cherry! Wow, were they Delicious!
We also went to MI Rancho Alegre a few weeks later, and again, we experienced great service and food!
I HIGHLY recommend going out of your way to the west side of Rochester to enjoy MI Rancho Alegre off Ridge Road west at the intersection of I390. The entrance is off of a side street just north and east of...
