What a delightful experience! If you’ve been looking for something fun; relaxing and uplifting to do in Virginia Beach, this is your place! Took a friend here as a birthday present. The location is kind of tucked away, nestled in The Vibe section of town. The space is cozy and bright inside and the workspace is comfortable, a big work table large enough to fit up to 10 people plus an instructor. Our class was full and there was plenty of room for us all. The entire class had never experienced working with clay, but our instructor, the lovely Susannah, was wonderful with us newbies. We all started our two hour class as strangers with a thin round slab in front of us, but ended as encouraging, friendly novices who had each created a unique and fabulous serving bowl that is now awaiting glazing and firing. Susannah had the coolest energy…sweet, encouraging, relaxed and gentle, never rushing us and available to answer questions and offer suggestions if asked. She led us with a comfortable, zen-like pace. You absolutely do not need any experience or have to be an artist to enjoy this class…every person in that room was a little nervous and uncertain when we first sat down but we all ended up having created something you’d expect to see in a Pottery Barn catalog! Also, if you have guests coming from out of town who might want to take a class with you, they can arrange for their finished pieces to be shipped back to them after glazing and firing as it takes a few weeks for the finished project to be ready. I can’t recommend this experience enough. We have every intention of treating ourselves to more classes and are trying to decide which one to take next! Thank you, Miss Susannah, for such an...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to take a private pottery wheel class at Jars of Dust in Virginia Beach, and I can honestly say it exceeded all my expectations. From start to finish, it was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences I’ve had.
The class was led by Sarah, who was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also genuinely kind, patient, and so easy to talk to. She made me feel comfortable right away, even though I had zero prior experience with pottery. The two hour session started with a personal tour of the studio, then Sarah walked me through the entire process of pottery making, then we moved on to the wheel, where Sarah demonstrated how to construct a piece from start to finish, and then it was my turn. Sarah’s instruction was hands-on, thoughtful, and so encouraging. She guided me through every step from centering the clay, pulling the walls, and shaping the form. She offered helpful tips while also allowing me the space to explore and learn by doing. I was amazed at how much I was able to create with her guidance. I ended up making two pieces of my choosing, and I left the class feeling proud and inspired.
Whether you're brand new to pottery like me or looking to deepen your skills, I cannot recommend this enough.
I will absolutely be returning for more classes in the future. If you're considering booking a...
Read moreI'm always impressed with the simplicity of the pottery inside but the quality is unmistakable. It's beautiful.
It's pricey, but you can order something specific and they will make it for you if you don't see the color you'd like on display.
They've started offering pottery classes which you can sign up for on your website and make your own items with them in their shop. I'm signed up for one next month and can't wait to attend!
Gorgeous little shop with high-end pottery for sale.
-- Update - July 2023 They've recently introduced pottery classes and I attended a create your own serving bowl class last weekend with a friend.
It was well done and fun and cute. Caitlyn, the instructor, was super nice and took great care of us and was a great resource while we navigated smoothing the class, cutting out our bowls and shaping them. It was a lot of fun and there are several options for classes like mugs, water bowls for pets, planters and serving bowls.
Such a...
