What a delightful experience! If you’ve been looking for something fun; relaxing and uplifting to do in Virginia Beach, this is your place! Took a friend here as a birthday present. The location is kind of tucked away, nestled in The Vibe section of town. The space is cozy and bright inside and the workspace is comfortable, a big work table large enough to fit up to 10 people plus an instructor. Our class was full and there was plenty of room for us all. The entire class had never experienced working with clay, but our instructor, the lovely Susannah, was wonderful with us newbies. We all started our two hour class as strangers with a thin round slab in front of us, but ended as encouraging, friendly novices who had each created a unique and fabulous serving bowl that is now awaiting glazing and firing. Susannah had the coolest energy…sweet, encouraging, relaxed and gentle, never rushing us and available to answer questions and offer suggestions if asked. She led us with a comfortable, zen-like pace. You absolutely do not need any experience or have to be an artist to enjoy this class…every person in that room was a little nervous and uncertain when we first sat down but we all ended up having created something you’d expect to see in a Pottery Barn catalog! Also, if you have guests coming from out of town who might want to take a class with you, they can arrange for their finished pieces to be shipped back to them after glazing and firing as it takes a few weeks for the finished project to be ready. I can’t recommend this experience enough. We have every intention of treating ourselves to more classes and are trying to decide which one to take next! Thank you, Miss Susannah, for such an...

I recently had the opportunity to take a private pottery wheel class at Jars of Dust in Virginia Beach, and I can honestly say it exceeded all my expectations. From start to finish, it was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences I’ve had.

The class was led by Sarah, who was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also genuinely kind, patient, and so easy to talk to. She made me feel comfortable right away, even though I had zero prior experience with pottery. The two hour session started with a personal tour of the studio, then Sarah walked me through the entire process of pottery making, then we moved on to the wheel, where Sarah demonstrated how to construct a piece from start to finish, and then it was my turn. Sarah’s instruction was hands-on, thoughtful, and so encouraging. She guided me through every step from centering the clay, pulling the walls, and shaping the form. She offered helpful tips while also allowing me the space to explore and learn by doing. I was amazed at how much I was able to create with her guidance. I ended up making two pieces of my choosing, and I left the class feeling proud and inspired.

Whether you're brand new to pottery like me or looking to deepen your skills, I cannot recommend this enough.

I will absolutely be returning for more classes in the future. If you're considering booking a...

I'm always impressed with the simplicity of the pottery inside but the quality is unmistakable. It's beautiful.

It's pricey, but you can order something specific and they will make it for you if you don't see the color you'd like on display.

They've started offering pottery classes which you can sign up for on your website and make your own items with them in their shop. I'm signed up for one next month and can't wait to attend!

Gorgeous little shop with high-end pottery for sale.

-- Update - July 2023 They've recently introduced pottery classes and I attended a create your own serving bowl class last weekend with a friend.

It was well done and fun and cute. Caitlyn, the instructor, was super nice and took great care of us and was a great resource while we navigated smoothing the class, cutting out our bowls and shaping them. It was a lot of fun and there are several options for classes like mugs, water bowls for pets, planters and serving bowls.

Such a...

A fun date night!!! My husband and I signed up for the ornament making class. We agreed this is the perfect activity to prepare for the holidays and memorialize our first year married. When we arrived to class, we were greeted by Kaitlyn, our workshop leader. She’s amazing and super helpful. We all had designated stations with our names on it. The set up was super cute. They offered many shapes to choose from or you can make your own shape. We each did 3 ornaments. For $20 more, you can do 3 more ornaments. The workshop is a fun way to express your creativity and relax. We also enjoyed talking to the other participants in class. For colors, I chose eggshell and my husband chose aurora (their new pretty purple color). Once they finish glazing, we can pick it up. It would take about 4-6 weeks. We cannot wait to hang them up on our Christmas tree. Thank you Jars of Dust for this amazing experience! We’re looking forward to trying the platter and serving bowl workshops next! 😃

My daughter and I went to a platter pottery class as Christmas gifts to each other. We were both a little intimidated by the process prior to going but once we arrived, Kaitlyn was very sweet and encouraging. She explained the shaping process very clearly and was helpful if we had an oops. Shaping the clay was soothing and relaxing. Once we came to the portion of the class where we were free to carve our own designs into the platter, Kaitlyn showed our group some beautiful previously made pieces and techniques to create our own. My daughter and I decided to keep ours simple but others were much more creative and i loved seeing everyone’s different styles. The only “negative” is it does take a few weeks to receive our pieces back to give them time to glaze and fire our pieces. We are super excited to see what the finished product will look like. This was a really enjoyable experience and would definitely do it again.

This class was so much fun! A friend and I signed up to make planters which turned out to be a truly wonderful experience! Both of the instructors were very energetic and welcoming, which made the creative space feel safe and fun! Not only was the class great from a sensory standpoint from working with clay and using tools, it was also fun to learn a new skill, and feel accomplished in a creative art form that has been around for centuries! I am very excited to get my planter back and look forward to taking another class at jars of dust! Separate from their classes they had a lot of really great pottery pieces available for purchase from ring dishes to candleholders, mugs to bowls, plates, dog bowls and more! A truly fun place in the heart of the creative District in Virginia Beach! We had a blast and will definitely have to go back!
