Now, a caveat to this review is I'm not a regular at this place nor can I know what type of staffing issues are occurring, as they are occurring everywhere. Now, that being said, I was pretty displeased with just about every aspect of my dinner last night. We were shown to the communal table, which I was ecstatic about. I love sitting down with new people and chatting about food. It was ramen night, of which I am not a fan, but was looking forward to the pumpkin tortilla. Now, the full seating time for us was well over an hour from start to finish for this meal. We ate in about 10 minutes because we were in a bit of a rush after finally receiving our food. I scoped the restaurant initially and there was a reserved table for 4, that hadn't shown up yet. It took about 5 minutes or so for us to order and my wife had some questions concerning the different ramen flavors and requested a non-salty version of the broth. The broth was brought out expeditiously which was probably the fastest part of our meal. The drinks took a hot minute as the staff wrestled with a keg. About 10 minutes after the reserved table was seated it appeared they received their food. It was lightning quick. We were still waiting on our popcorn which I had to inquire about. After more than 50 minutes, we finally received our slightly warmer than tepid pumpkin soup, which sadly tasted of nothing but cumin and tomato paste, and my wife's ramen, which had so little broth she requested more...which appeared AFTER I had already paid the check. I ordered an additional biscuit with my dinner, knowing that it came with a small baby one that I was going to give to my wife. That baby one never came and when I asked about it, was told "Well, they are really small and you ordered a big one so....do you still want it? Its pretty small". Uh, yes, I wanted my biscuit WHEN I ordered it. My wife did enjoy the yuzu broth, which is the only reason for the extra star. Oh, and the reserved table? Ate, had drinks, and paid before we even got our food... Cliff Notes: Slow to non-existent service Out of order food delivery Missing meal items Complete lack of empathy when mistakes were...
Read moreMy husband and I went for brunch. I’m not sure if they were short staff or it was normal but it felt really disorganized and not in a fun quirky way. They tried to seat us before another couple that was there before us. Said they were clearing a table and forgot about us we went in and they still hadn’t cleared any tables. They spilled so many things and had someone serving who admitted she doesn’t normally serve but her attitude/demeanor was not welcoming she wasn’t rude but wasn’t friendly. I think she told us to “enjoy our day I guess” she also told the person next to us that they assumed the person was vegan but that was odd to us to make assumptions off of an appearance and even an order considering I order vegan all the time and I’m not vegan. It was all just so odd. Everyone was working diligent but nothing was happening. They weren’t even busy at the time. Less that half the tables were filled and because it was an open kitchen you could see the number of staff. They shouldn’t have felt so short staffed for the number of customers. And I had planned to give 4 stars our food came much quicker than I expected but my food was so so bland my husbands was delicious but I got the egg scramble and it had so many tasty ingredients in it and I couldn’t taste any of them even after salting. The whole experience was weird. Not sure if they we’re having an off day or what but when it’s almost $10 for a scrambled egg plate I did expect a...
Read moreThis was our first time venturing around Virginia Beach, which unfortunately lined up with a time that I am not eating grains or starches. I was trying to find healthy restaurants in the area that weren't insanely expensive and I'm so glad I stumbled on The Stock Pot! The staff were lovely, our server was even kind enough to serve us on the patio even though inside seemed slammed and it was an overcast and slightly chilly day. We never felt neglected out there and she was super patient as we waited for a friend to join, even though it took about 20 minutes for us to decide to order without him. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and helpful to us VA Beach noobs. If the atmosphere and service wasn't enough, our food was GREAT. My partner had some sort of potato burrito special, which I couldn't invest too much thought into without taking it for myself, and he loved it. He was also introduced to Speedy's Hot Sauce, which is a straight-up game changer in the world of hot sauce. I had the Winter Salad which was simple but full of rich flavors. I felt like everything was just the right portion size to be filling and worth the price tag if you are trying to eat mindfully for energy. All in all, just a great experience and the best place we ate the entire 3 days we were there. We hope to...
