Guests be advised: check your final bill Despite a negative experience at the end of the stay, I will leave an objective review as to not tarnish the reputation of every aspect of the hotel.
Pros: The physical space itself is great. The room was clean, the pool and beach areas were pleasant (shout out to the attendants), the food offerings in/near the hotel made it so we never really needed to leave. I have no complaints about the hotel itself. The front staff were great when we checked in. The location is unbeatable for the area.
Con: The customer service/experience when we checked out was a stark contrast to the overall hotel experience. The day before checking out, I noticed a charge that was far more than what I agreed to when I booked. Yes, we did charge food to the room and I understand thereās also a security deposit charged. However, that security deposit was already debited. There was now a $2,200 charge on top of a $700 initial deposit. My total stay at the time of booking was
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy traveling companion and I arrived Friday evening for a 2-night stay at the Embassy Suites Virginia Beach Oceanfront Resort. The idling and parking areas are shared with the neighboring Hilton property, so arrival can feel a bit chaotic but I found it to be well-managed. We were greeted warmly at the front desk by Sabrina, who swiftly and efficiently checked us in. I had previously requested a high floor and appreciate the hotel honoring that request and giving us an 11th floor room. In addition to room keys, Embassy Suites is piloting new āroom access wristbands,ā which is essentially a green flexible wristband with an embedded chip that opens doors, elevators and your room. For someone who misplaces things all the time, I found myself just wearing the wristband most of the weekend.
First impressions of the room were clean, excellent air conditioning, and a great view of the ocean even though the room was not āoceanfront.ā The property opened in March and there was little to no wear and tear on any of the room fixtures. The king studio suites have a unique layout that tucks the bed around the corner of the main suite area which gives it a bedroomāesque feel.
For being a weekend during the peak summer season the hotel hardly felt crowded. We explored the pool area, which has both an indoor pool and a larger outdoor pool surrounded by a healthy number of chairs, lounges, and umbrellas. There is a fun outdoor dining spot called Tacos-N-Tequila that is directly adjacent to the pool thatās also good for poolside cocktails (the Paloma and Mojito were great!)
The property provides two free beach chairs to each room, which you can claim by checking in with the sand side attendant. (Yes, the hotel is literally right next to the beach). There are also umbrellas, lounge chairs, and small cabanas available to rent. One lesson we learned was that all of those items generally rent out by 9:00am on the weekend - the early bird gets the worm. The same can be said for the signature free Embassy Suites breakfastā¦sort of. Despite color-coded signs warning guests to either arrive by 7:30am or face the wrath of the hungry queue, we managed to be seated within five minutes both mornings despite arriving at 9:30am. I attribute some of this being just a party of two, versus larger families who requested tables of 4, 5, 6, etc.
Once seated, the breakfast really does live up to the hype. Plus, as my traveling companion said āVacation breakfast is one of those meals you donāt want to have to put a lot of thought into.ā There were heaps of fresh scrambled eggs, bacon, turkey sausage, and porridge. There was coffee, fresh juices, waffle makers, toasters, yogurt etc. And there was the piĆØce de rĆ©sistance⦠made to order omelettes. Huge shoutout to the omelette chef, who literally has a one-man assembly line going just cranking out delicious omelettes with whatever ingredients guests want.
A few additional thoughts⦠We found the rooms to be quiet and comfortable in the overnight hours. Self-park in the shared deck works well, just be prepared to park on the top or penultimate floor. If you want an amazing dinner spot, Orionās Roof at the Hilton next-door more than lives up to the hype. Just make sure you snag a reservation well in advance. The official boardwalk starts a couple of blocks south of Embassy Suites, but is easily accessible via Pacific Ave
Overall, we were very impressed by the property. Itās at the higher end price-wise of VA Beach hotels but definitely worth the money and we plan to return during the offseason when rates are lower. Five...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's not that this is a bad place. The hotel itself, as well as the rooms were nice and new. The issue is that I had is that I was a bit underwhelmed. I booked this with all points (a little higher due to the holiday weekend but wasn't too bad ) but the fact what they charged if I didn't use points. With Resort fees (more on that later), parking fee, and taxes it would've been over 600 dollars a night for a regular 2 room partial ocean view room. To be honest, before I checked in I saw how much it was and I was so excited to see what a 600 dollar a night hotel was as I never been in one. I was envisioning a totally different experience. I was not wowed at all, it was as if I stayed in a hotel 1/3 that price. I really feel bad for those that paid cash. First Check -in. I called in several weeks ago to confirm I will be getting a Ocean view. That obviously didn't happened. The parking situation was a bit of a hassle. Its like Marriot's little sister. you need to drop off your luggage at the hotel,. drive across the parking lot to the Marriot's hotel and look for a spot in their garage there then come back. That is a 10 minute ordeal. Resort Fees - it says 'enhanced WIFI' . you get basic WIFI and if you want real WIFI there is an additional fee, it also said you get a free tour with book. What they mean is that you need to walk all the way to the Cavalier hotel for them to give you a small pamphlet about their hotel and do the self guided tour. Rooms - It was nice. Was expecting bigger at that price. once the sofa is opened you loose the room. The Kitchenette was nice. The walls and windows are completely not sound proof. Military planes - SUPER loud, police sirens, every time the other room closed their door by bed shook. You could hear what the people are saying next door, Pools - This was misrepresented. You don't have any access to any other pools besides the Embassy Suites. There is no amenities that you can use from the other hotels (Gee thanks I can spend money at their bars). Embassy's pools is a bit smaller than the other ones and gets very crowded during peak times. There is no hot tub in theirs. We got a nice view from the room of pools we weren't allowed in. Its not that their own pool wasn't nice but again for 600 a night I was expecting either bigger pools or access to the other pools. The Beach - they do give you 2 chairs (like actual chairs not the ones that lay down).. anything else is an additional fee. They put you behind the 200 dollar cabanas. You are not allowed to be next to them or in front of them. The width of the property is very narrow so there is only so much room. (Cavalier width is much wider). So your view is a bit distorted because your looking at the cabanas or other beach goers behind them. Towels - they give you a card for the towels. Really you charge 600 bucks a night but you're worried about us stealing a 5 dollar tower Happy hour - this one was good. Just be careful the bartender may ask if you want a double shot which counts as your 2 free drinks Breakfast - 2 days I had no wait. Its also bit strange why they have to sit you down then they bring a zero dollar bill with a tip line. I saw no reason to tip then so I didn't. The last day there was a 30 minute wait for breakfast. They need to lose the waiter service aspect of it and add more tables.
It was a nice and new looking hotel but their pricing model was way out of hand and...
