(BEDBUGS). If you're not selective on the amenities for your stay, this place fits the description. Convenient location, basic amenities (TV, AC, Wi-Fi with weak signal) and a small pool. Nothing fancy, it is a decent stay undergoing renovations. Afforadably priced in an area with big hotels and pricing.
The only issue we had were the bedbugs. Yes bedbugs. We had booked a 7 night stay with 2 beds and a kitchenette. On the 3rd day my oldest son had found a bug on the pillow and was trying to shoo it away. When we looked closely, it appeared to be a bedbug. We placed the live bug into a ziplock and pulled the covers off the bed only to reveal bedsheets with hundreds of tiny blood stains (our blood stains). We presented the bug to the front desk management, and requested a clean room. They never acknowledged that it was a bedbug. There was grumpy older lady who reluctantly prepared new keys, while the male manager called an exterminator. The exterminator arrived in about 20 minutes came to our infested room and confirmed it was a bedbug. After we left the room, the exterminator chemically sprayed the room. The exterminator did tell me that the room will be ready for use in 3 hours.
The hotel management washed and dried ALL of our clothes, and provided a staff member to help relocate our belongings into the new room. We threw away all out suitcases and sealed questionable items in garbage bags and were told that leaving them in a hot car for a few days would kill off any potential stowaways and eggs. So we did (in garbage bags of course) So guess what? A few days after we leave Virginia Beach, we find a bedbug in the car and all the bedbugs bites start to show. Bedbugs bites can take up to 9 days to emerge depending on the individual. Mine all showed up 7 days after being bitten. If we did not find the live bug, we would have brought hundreds home in our suitcases and possibly contaminate every place we stopped and stayed on the way home.
I have counted over 300 bites on myself, my wife about 250. All on our arms, legs, torso, neck, feet. itchy like mosquito bites. Lucky for us the kids (5 months, 3 and 5 yrs old) escaped with a small handful since they slept on the other bed most of the time.
We've been home for two weeks, and we are constantly paranoid for every sensation we get before bedtime.
This hotel has a few bedbug reviews on Tripadvisior and Bedbugregistry all in 2014 and 2015. Despite a response from the hotel, their staff is not trained to identify bedbugs. On the way to the front desk with our sample, I asked two cleaning staff if they've had issues. Both did not know what what I was talking about.
If you decide to stay here, please beware THERE MAY STILL BE AN ISSUE WITH BEDBUGS. Not worth the hassle and psychological paranoia...
Read moreGreat stay at this excellently located and roomy hotel. My family and I were a group of 5 and we booked a 2-Double/1 Sofa Bed suite.
Pros: Check-in was super fast and easy, our room keys were ready on arrival, parking pass was quickly filled out and we were on our way to the room. Room was decent and roomy. The extra "bedroom" and full kitchen were nice. Our room was recently renovated/modernized. AC and Fridge were both cold. There's nothing like that AC hitting you after 90-95% humidity all day at the beach. Location. This hotel is right on Atlantic Ave, albeit across the street from the "oceanfront" hotels. You cross the street, and you are right next to the boardwalk and the beach. There's also a Dunkin and Domoishi one block away on Pacific Ave, which is great for all your coffee, donut, and boba needs. Within walking distance of the King Neptune statue and the outdoor beach workout park, if that is your thing. Staff. Every interaction with staff from housekeeping to the front desk was excellent. Any time we needed towels or toiletries, a quick call to the front desk and 10-15 minutes later someone from housekeeping showed up with what we needed. Quiet. Maybe we got lucky but we had no noise issues from other occupants or the surrounding area. Provided us with a broom and extra trash bags in the bottom of the cans. This was awesome to have to kind of clean up the sand/room as you go. This is a beach location after all and you will be dealing with sand during your entire stay.
Cons: Our room had some used wash cloths in some of the drawers/hanging on the shower curtain rod in the bathroom. There was some trash in one of the nightstands. Parking is very tight behind the building. Not sure what they can do about it as it's just a symptom of the way the parking lot is laid out.
We did not try the pool. It looked clean, but it was small and crowded every time we walked by and instead we just went to the beach if we felt the need to swim. We also didn't do the provided breakfast as we chose to hit up Dunkin for any breakfast/coffee needs.
Overall, a great place to stay. The room could have been cleaned better before our arrival, but it wasn't enough of an issue to be a huge problem or complain to the front desk about. We simply tossed the washcloths in our dirty towel pile and tossed out the trash left behind.
The location is a huge benefit of this hotel, as well as the ability to sleep up to 6 in our room which was another reason why we booked this location. We had no bug, noise, or staff issues and we would stay here again for sure. Thank you to all of the staff that we interacted with...
Read moreBefore you ever arrive the text service sets a warm and welcoming atmosphere & upon your arrival the staff picks up the mantle. Every employee that I encountered was extremely kind & helpful. & I promise that the map is not lying this place, for this price is 1/2 block from the beach! The outside of the building could use a good paint job but my room (1 king) was clean & a nice size. My only complaints are that the front desk is not 24 hrs as advertised, I called multiple times after midnight on my first night & no one answered. Also it's advertised that the rooms are hardwired for internet but I got no connection from my port and had to use wifi which was very slow for work (also, keep in mind that if you plan on working from here & you're required to take calls there are fighter jets (or at least that's what they look like to me) that go back & forth throughout the day, I didn't know this beforehand but luckily I didn't have many calls so it was fine. This is clearly nothing that Im holding against the hotel, just an FYI.) Finally, while it is out of season, the pool is empty and has debris/parts in it & its an eyesore and doesn't look promising for pool season that starts next month so if I were going during the summer I'd call and ask about the pool first but the again it's 1/2 a block from the beach so who needs a pool! But at least cover it up. Also, I saw a few complaints about the breakfast....its not a full breakfast but rather a continental breakfast, which is what the website says, it's just not buffet style. It's a bag breakfast with a few different pastries and you can choose your fruit and drink. I'll absolutely be looking here for...
