I came back to my room after being at another hotel for a conference. When I entered my room, I could see that someone had been in my room. There was a tobacco package and fruit gummies on the floor and I found a hotel key card under my bed. The person had also taken a shower in my room and left a dirty wet towel on top of my makeup bag. I picked the items up that were on the floor and went to front desk, visibly upset. The manager accompanied me to my room, where we found the balcony door open and cigarette ashes on the outside table. Also, my weekly pill box had been sorted by pill type. All of my belongings had been searched by the intruder, my jewelery was stolen, my toothbrush appeared to have been used, and my beverages in the fridge had been consumed. There was trash on the floor, desk, and bathroom area. There was also paper tucked inside the door lock holes, maybe for future return by the intruder. I was moved to another room by a different staff member and I showed him the additional items I had noticed while trying to gather my things. I asked that the police be called so I could make a police report and was told that they would be contacted. I met up with other conference attendees in the lobby and again inquired about the police being called and was told they had been. An hour had passed and no police and I called them myself and was notified by dispatch that no other call from hotel staff had been received at VBPD. Officers arrived shortly after my phone call and they spoke to front desk and checked my old room. Shortly thereafter the officer spoke with me in the lobby and advised that someone at the front desk had opened my room and gave this intruder access to my room. I was advised by police that they could not proceed with this as a theft because hotel staff had given access of my room to this intruder and that the hotel's insurance would have to cover my losses. While waiting in the lobby, I saw all front desk employees and another employee walk outside together. The manager said she was making an incident report, reviewing cameras, and checking the key entry records for my room. I will just tell you that all of these employees were acting very suspicious in my opinion. They knew that access to my room had been granted by a hotel staff member but failed to disclose this information to me. It took the officers less than 10 minutes to report to me what hotel management should have disclosed about this situation. I ended up having to check out and find another hotel in Norfolk and other conference attendees did the same. I was truly terrified and distraught over this incident and could not stay at that hotel not one second longer. There is something very shady going on with the staff at this hotel and they violated my 4th Amendment rights by allowing access to my room without checking any ID or credentials. I booked this room as a solo traveler and hotel staff should have known better than to give access to my room. I just can't believe that this happened. If I could give a negative star review I would, -1,000,000 stars for this...
Read moreI have mixed feelings about my stay at this hotel. The staff is incredibly nice and welcoming, which I truly appreciate. The hotel claims to be fully renovated, and while many areas do look refreshed, I wouldn’t say it’s fully renovated—especially the bathrooms, which could use an update.||||One major issue is the ongoing construction. They’ve been working on the balconies for months, and while I understand the need for renovations, the hotel fails to disclose this anywhere on its booking page or app. The noise is extremely loud and disruptive, which has made working from my room very difficult. When I stayed here months ago, I was told the construction would be finished by early March. However, when I checked in today, I was informed that it might now be completed by early April. If noise is a concern for you, I highly recommend calling ahead before booking. To make matters worse, it’s nearly 6 PM on a Sunday, and the construction is still going on. The only day there is no construction is Saturday, so expect noise every other day of the week.||||Another major issue is the elevators. There are only two, and one has been out of service since at least January. During peak hours, expect long waits. Given how long it has been broken, I can’t help but wonder why it’s taking so long to fix.||||Additionally, the hotel does not offer mobile key access, which is surprising for a “fully renovated” property.||||What I find especially frustrating is that I’ve seen other Marriott hotels disclose when there is construction happening, so I don’t understand why this hotel has chosen not to do so. Guests deserve to know about major disruptions before booking—it feels misleading not to mention it anywhere in the app or booking process.||||Overall, while the staff is wonderful, the lack of transparency about construction and the ongoing maintenance issues make this a frustrating stay. If you’re sensitive to noise or rely on quick elevator access, this may not be the best option until these problems...
Read moreI needed temporary housing and could not have made a better choice. Imagine waking up and going to bed every day with a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. The room was amazing; comfortable bed, a pullout couch for guests, and an excellent smart TV that utilizes a full-motion wall mount that allowed me to watch tv in bed, on the couch, or from my work area. I was even able to login to my Netflix account! Since I was working from “home”, the work area in my room was perfect and the WIFI provided plenty of signal strength to support the multiple applications I work with. Garbage and recyclables were picked up everyday and my weekly room cleaning was always immaculate; I scheduled it for my day off when I would be gone most of the day. Always looked forward to returning to a thoroughly cleaned room. Another great reason to stay here is the mini store: sodas, snacks, ice cream, and various medicine can be found here 24/7 and easily charged to my room. The Bistro was available for breakfast which came in handy when I wanted to sleep in and still be able to grab a breakfast sandwich and oj. Another great feature is the location-great Mexican food from Pelon’s and Dunkin Donuts are within one block, an excellent breakfast place called Pocahontas pancakes and an Oceanside craft beer bar called Lagerheads is an easy three block walk. Want a great Irish pub? Murphy’s Pub is only 7 blocks away and they have the best burger in VaBeach. Need a late night pizza or craving Italian food? North End pizza is within 5 blocks and will deliver right to your room. I cannot say enough for the staff here. They went above and beyond for me time and time again, even scrambling to provide me two more nights on a packed weekend. I will miss my little home by the sea and highly recommend the Courtyard by Marriott on 37th St. If you are looking for a long term stay or a quick weekend getaway, you can...
