This is my families third and last time staying at “the resort.” The first year we stayed was three years ago. Seemed pleasant and all was well. Room was a little dated but clean. Regular cleaning, clean pool and facilities. Perfect for families. Two bedrooms, two baths, fully equipped kitchen, washer dryer and living room. The owners of the unit also had beach towels and toys, and left us a broom and other cleaning supplies. The staff were friendly and we had a great time. ||VBTS is in perfect location to nearby restaurants, the beach and other surrounding towns. Beautiful sunrises and felt very homelike. ||Last summer we returned the same week, we were put in the same room. I did review last year stating my complaints and being upset about the visit. There were some really sketchy staff that were living in a room underneath us scaring the children and the room started to look really run down like it wasn’t taken care of. The pool was filthy and my husband and other guest were cleaning it daily. I wasn’t planning on returning. The girl working the front desk was rude at every encounter. Right from the first day calling us at 5 pm, asking if we were still coming, as they wanted to leave early. Check in is until 8 pm. ||Last December I got an email for what seemed to be a really good deal- 25 percent off each night for early season. We always go the last week of May, so I called and said I would give one last shot. ||I had chosen the room I wanted from online before calling. I am aware from staying there twice now, that this isn’t a fancy place but this was just sad. The owners of these “apartments” really need to put some work into the space they are renting out. And shame on the owner of VBTS also thinking that places looking like this is okay. ||Rust, falling apart floors and ceilings, chipped paint everywhere, old furniture, thin bare sheets just to name a few. ||The outdoor pool was also “closed for renovations.” I understand as I live in New England we have had 28 weekends of precipitation, but why was no one working on this to have it ready for Memorial Day weekend? Yes a lot of people love to just go to the beach but others stay places for an outdoor pool. ||We stayed a week and were told we’d get house cleaning day 3 and 5. I wasn’t sure if the first day counted as the day we arrived or the following so on Tuesday (we arrived Sunday) I called and asked. The girl at the front desk said they would be coming Wednesday. I asked for clean towels and sheets for the pull out and the cleaning bf |staff did bring some over promptly.||Friday comes along and no one came to clean. I called the desk and she said we were just there yesterday. I said no, you cleaned Wednesday and she said oh never mind you’re scheduled for tomorrow. I thought this was weird as we would be leaving the next morning. We spent the morning out, returning at 2pm and no one came to clean. Called the desk as we needed towels and the floors were covered with sand. I wouldn’t even have minded if this room came with a broom like the last. But there were no cleaning supplies or extras in this apartment. The girl at the front desk stated they came the last two days to clean. I said no they didn’t . She said oh well they can come now. ||I said we were back and never mind as we were leaving the next morning. We ended up heading out and one family member stayed behind, the cleaning crew came at 4 pm and cleaned while he was there. It didn’t bother him, but seemed pointless as we were leaving the next morning, but do appreciate someone showed up. As I am not a horrible person.||When staying at a hotel/resort where a pool and cleaning is offered you expect it. These are part of the amenities you pay for. ||My family has visited Maine for the last 11 years, 3 staying here. Sadly we won’t be returning. ||I’ve seen the other reviews with negative comments and manager Jill getting defensive acting like these guests are out of line. People work hard and the way places are advertised expect things to be a certain way when visiting. ||This was a week long trip for us and it wasn’t cheap. Yes we made wonderful memories, but would have been better in a nicer “resort.”||VBTS is not a resort. It is a bunch of run down apartments with owners who clearly don’t care about their “guests” either. ||I have stayed many many places. Do yourself a favor and be your own judge by the photos. Maine’s a beautifully place, find someplace...
Read moreNIGHTMARE BY THE SEA Planned on spending 1 night , to attend a family wedding event, but the bride allowed us to stay an extra night in her room as she wouldn't be sleeping there on Friday night. First night was in a 'Bridal Suite' 9G which was a good room with nice floors, but upon pulling the bedsheets back to check for bugs&cleanliness (which we always do when sleeping at any motel), we discovered pubic hairs on the mattress cover. A call to the front desk brought housekeeping running and they quickly changed both beds sheets. The bride arrived and discovered fake eyelashes on the bathroom floor. Another call ensured the entire room was clean and sanitized while we went out for dinner. The maintenance crew did also clean the hall&stair carpets which was nice but should have been done the day before as the fans were set up on every level drying as we carried up our luggage and dress clothes. The next morning brought a knock on the door asking us when we planned on leaving, as housekeeping said they needed to clean the room again. We quickly complied and had to negotiate several trips up&down the stairs around a maintenance man who was set up on the landing with spackle, paint, roller, tray and drop cloth doing repairs. We found ourselves standing in the rain, as we could not accept our new room 10A, as it was in the basement and smelled very damp&moldy. We informed the front desk folks,(who were very polite and accommodative throughout our time there) and Maintenance Man arrived (who I will hereafter refer to as MM) and showed us our second choice in Building 8 after I could not activate the key lock. The new room was at ground level but smelled musty with a big stain in the thick, old carpet. My wife informed the staff she has a health condition and needs a clean room and we were given keys to Building 2 ground floor. As we parked in front of B2 we saw MM leaving the building without a word to us and get in his truck and drive away. Once again I tried to use the electronic keys and the light would only turn red and we could not get in the room. It was now 11:30a.m. and we had already loaded our luggage in the car so I dropped off the keys at the front desk and we went out for breakfast. Upon our return the nice lady said we have to leave the key in the door a bit longer as MM tried them and they worked. I took the keys and drove back to B2 were we were intercepted in the hallway by MM as I got the lock light turned green. MM forced his way past myself and my wife and began arguing with us over the proper use of the door key in an aggressive demeanor. MM had now completely lost his composure and was acting in a violent and threatening manner so we left. The office refunded our money and said we could stay the night for free. We thought about staying but with my wife shaking and in tears we left for home. The entire weekend was now changed from a joyous celebration to a total nightmare. The office never apologized for his behavior. After a day of reflection it is obvious to me MM should not be working in the Hospitality business and his employer should never allow him to interact with the...
Read moreJust returned a vacation in Maine. We haven't stayed at Village by the Sea a long time. It was tough to get any 2-bedroom suites in Ogunquit. So, we decided to make reservations here. We we're very disappointed with the room. I needed a room on an upper level. My wife doesn't like staying on the ground floor. The prices for the top level were extremely high, so we went with a room on the second floor. The rug going up to the second floor really needed a steam cleaning. Out room was very tired looking. Furniture very outdated. The room needed a freshening up. Base boards/trim all banged up and needed repainting. Ceiling fan light in the spare basement didn't work. Closet doors in the spare basement weren't on the track. The bathrooms were updated. After spending all day out of your room, you usually look forward going back to relax for the evening. I never got that feeling. The family upstairs from us had kids jumping off beds and running around. I thought they were going to break through my ceiling. They start at 6:30 every morning nonstop until we left the room for the day. Very annoying. Don't get me wrong, we now have older kids but would never have them jumping around like that. Some people need to have consideration of other people. The TV remote situation was a horror show. We had to have a maintenance worker try to come to the room to figure out which remote was which and how we could watch TV. He even had problems trying to figure it out. So needless to say, we didn't have a pleasant experience. Out next trip will be to try to get a place in Ogunquit. We're Marriott Vacation Club owners, so we're use to stay in multi bedroom suites. I've been vacationing in Ogunquit for over 50 years. It's a place we enjoy. Wonderful restaurants and a great...
