My big problem was that I have never felt like such an "open wallet" like I felt in Ziggy. The minibar was VERY expensive and was completely full along with most of the table taking up valuable room space. You had to book the cleaning and towel changes beforehand. There was a card to leave a tip to a specified team without cash - again, in a room that you had to book the cleaning for. The hotel parking is valet, at 65$ a day. An absurd price that you either have to pay due to the parking situation in LA, or pay significantly less in parkings a few blocks away from the hotel itself. The hotel charges a 150$/day accidentals coverage to your credit card (absurd amount, but returned at the end of the stay) But nothing compares to the hidden 35$ + tax charge PER DAY for "urban amenities fee". This charge is NOT included in the base price, and it supposedly covers pool access, gym access, the parties, Wifi and "complimentary" coffee. You are essentially REQUIRED to pay this for something that is very clearly advertised as hotel amenities and not something you'd be expected to pay for. We were NOT notified for this charge during booking or check in - we only figured out this charge upon seeing a charge in my credit card and requesting an invoice from the hotel via email. In addition to that, the fee doesn't even cover high speed wifi - there is a SEPARATE charge per stay for the "high speed wifi", otherwise you're limited to 15 up/down. I have no idea how a charge like this is legal - it is absolutely meant to lead you to book via a "lower-than-the-rest" daily rate which is then increased significantly via the hidden daily fee.
as for the actual stay: For some reason, the hotel floor is made out of old hardwood, which is known to creak and make noise. As such, we could hear every single step by the guests above us, making it impossible to actually sleep - if you're able to sleep in the first place due to the excessive amount of noise from the parties that are hosted in the hotel. In our last day we also had significant "construction" noise (drilling of some sort?) at 7am. The cleaning pre-booking led to us having a dirty room for most of our stay. The room was fairly small (with a big portion of it occupied by a kind of walk-in closet) but it had an ironing board and iron that we appreciated. Had bath robes but no flip flops. The bathroom was disappointing with no shower battery. The pool and the gym were equally disappointing. The pool seemed dirty (why the hell was it saltwater?), didn't have many places to actually sit, and the gym was small and didn't have much equipment.
Overall, I would absolutely never choose Ziggy again. The stay was mid at best, while the random charges were way...
Read moreAfter my fourth stay here I unfortunately feel like it's time to finally leave a review and admit that Hotel Ziggy is mediocre at best. The only benefit to staying here is the convenient location. Each time I've stayed, I've tried to give the issues with my room the benefit of the doubt, but the fact that there is a problem every single time leads me to have to admit this is just not a great hotel. This stay, I walked in and immediately saw a bunch of ants all over my bathroom that I had to keep wiping up throughout my stay. There were a few long dark hairs and dust on the counter and on the towels. When I asked front desk where the nearest ATM was, the response was "well, there's one on the first floor but I have no idea if it works. You're welcome to try!" When I got down there it was very clearly broken. I had to instead walk to another nearby hotel. Multiple hangers in the closet were broken and mismatched, with the pant clip hangers only working on one side. They do not give you a substantial blanket and it instead feels like you're sleeping under a sheet. The robe did not seem like it had been washed and was hanging there for a while in the closet. For past stays, I've had a clogged shower drain and paint peeling off the walls, which is weird given this is not an old hotel. I was also told upon check-in that I had been "upgraded" to a pool view - all that meant was that the bright lights around the pool they don't shut off at night illuminated my room.
There is no feeling of an attention to detail staying here. Front desk is usually nice but ultimately this was the breaking point for me and I cannot come back, especially given I paid over $800 for a three night stay and still had to come into a room that felt dirty. They also have refillable shower gel and soap rather than disposable ones that aren't even screwed to the shower wall like some others I've stayed in, which to me feels unsanitary since they're being used by every guest there and could pretty easily be tampered with or opened up by someone who stayed...
Read moreI really wish I could've enjoyed my stay more. But sadly the first things was that I was charged not only with the deposit (which is normal) but also with the whole stay although I was gifted the stay and the person who gifted it to me reassured with the hotel beforehand and gave them her card details and they said it would be okay, which it obviously wasn't but okay, that's nothing too bad I guess. What really annoys me most is (as other people wrote before) is that they do not clean or most importantly check their room after every guest!! We left some clothes in our room and no matter where on this earth I have been to, it was never once a problem to get my stuff back! Some hotels sent some clothes back without even mentioning something after we forgot a whole closet full of clothes!! After we noticed, we called several times before Someone eventually picked up and they said they did not find any clothes?? We even know that we left them in this one specific drawer and mentioned exactly what we left behind yet "it's not in their lost & found section". In my opinion they didn't check the room at all (!) and the guests who stayed in it after are now happy owners of new clothes or the cleaning lady checked it, found it and took it home.. either way, bad service!! When we finally reached someone days later, they didn't really care and never reported back! Customer support is a joke! $1000 worth of clothes & accessories gone just because the cleaning lady was pushy at 11:58 and told us we need to check out immediately (while we were still packing, hence to why we were in a hurry and didn't check twice). Absolutely disappointed with our stay! Not to mention the loud music all night long and "blinds" that do nothing against lighting the room as if it was the brightest day. The Pizza and our server were nice tho but that's the only positive thing! Maybe management should overthink their customer support or do something about their staff and time...
