Decided to book a quick Thursday-Saturday stay at Commander-By-The-Sea Motel during Labor Day Weekend (booked on Tuesday of same week). Initially I was going to do it through AirB&B but it was cheaper through the Motel website so keep that in mind. The Motel is definitely gear to cater for families. It was quiet and relaxing. I highly recommend this Motel for families looking to stay right on the beach and also have access to a pool. The rooms a bit outdated, however, I thought it gave it some charm to Jersey shore feel. The staff was friendly. Rooms are cleaned daily which was nice. Reading previous reviews everyone complained about the beds but the two full-size beds we got in room 211, were pleasantly ok. We didn’t use the pullout couch so can’t rate that. The location in Wildwood Crest is conveniently centrally located . Restaurants & boardwalk are within a 6-8min drive. The Motel offers on-site parking for one car which was super convenient. Parking spots are super tight but it beats not having one, so no complain there. The Wildwood Boardwalk is about a 7-8min drive and parking at the boardwalk is super easy (most parking lots charge a flat $10 fee). Acme Supermarket is also a 7min drive to buy food to have in the room. Overall, if you are a family looking for a quick getaway and be right on the beach, I highly recommend. If your expectations are a five star diamond experience in a brand new resort, this is not the place. My family and I will definitely...
Read moreWent down with family for 5 nights, checking in the room was very clean and no issues were noticed like in some of the other reviews. ||Location wise it was very nice, we stayed on the third floor and could see the beach, and not to mention it was very close to everything we wanted to go to, with a 15-20 minute drive being the max we went to a place. Only 5 minutes from the boardwalk, and beach wasn’t super crowded in the area (granted it was through the week). ||Had a nice balcony that overlooks the ocean/pool, good for hangouts and eating with family. The pool was clean, looked well managed, and had a blocked-off 1 foot area for children. Pool went up to 8 feet deep but had a ledge all the way around that you could stand on. ||We didn’t use the grills, but they featured an area on the first floor with 3 grills that looked to be cleaned multiple times a day. ||On the downside, the place had no elevator, and the stairs were a bit troublesome with going up to the third floor. Regardless of that though, it’s to be expected with the old-fashioned look to it. The outlets also seemed to have some trouble, and it can get hot out in the main room, but it’s easy to circulate if you leave the bedroom door open. ||It’s no fancy hotel, but it met the needs of comfort for our stay, and would definitely stay again if...
Read moreI have been staying at the Commander going back to 1989, and have a lot of experience with it over the years. The bottom line is that you cannot find a superior hotel or motel in the Wildwoods, period. This motel has been owned by the same family since it was built, and their pride and impeccable upkeep and hospitality is something you just do not find anywhere else.
Beyond my personal affinity, let me describe the facts. As far as the nightly rates, both in season and out of season? Very fair and reasonable. I encourage anyone to price other area lodging options. The Commander is priced fairly. But it's the accommodations that are the real story. The motel itself is in the "Populux" style that is typical of the region, so it is a fun throwback to a begone era. It is, however, 100% up to date, with internet access, TV, AC and so forth. The rooms are spotless and spacious; many are a suite type of arrangement with a small living room and a bedroom. The entire facility is on the beach at Pittsburgh Ave, which is the best area in town. The beach itself is one of the finest in the world, and coupling that with the Commander's world class status, you will have the time of your life.
Highly recommended and should be your first choice when staying in...
