Just left the El Coronado and my family and I were extremely disappointed with what has happened and is happening to this hotel as my family remembers it was much different. I'm not sure if its because they are starting to condo the hotel but it is not at all what my family and I remember from years ago. One word to explain is "Grimy". I spoke with someone from maintenance and was told they need to hire more employees and he was one of three employees keeping the place running. He said the owners just don't care. The design and location is great but here is a list of everything I noticed and why we will not go again unless we are told changes have been made and given a free vacation to replace the three days we stood there and were disappointed. Air condition was not strong and not even on in hallways and elevators, carpets weren't even vacuumed especially in hallways. Same debris in carpet remained on the floor the entire time we were there. The pool walls are crumbling, hot tub ladder is practically coming out of the concrete. I'm not a small guy but someone a little bigger than me and there is going to be an accident. The elevators besides being hot take forever, takes a good 30 seconds for each floor traveled. Stairs in the hotel make you feel like your in a run down apartment complex and were so dirty. Outside area especially near the garbage dumpsters stunk and the water running under them caused puddles of muck as you walk in and out of the hotel. Hot water in sinks was purposely lowered to also conserve. Toilet paper and towels were not provided for 6 people. When on first floor you can see inside the back of the kitchen which looked like a major pig pen, definitely skipped eating at the Coronado Cafe. The hotel laundry room where they wash the patrons sheets was completely exposed and towels out in the hallway. Towels were so rough one could easily guess they are not using any fabric softener and who knows what harsh chemicals are being used if any. The balcony's are coming apart and a collapse could be near. The couch in our room was beyond stained we had to cover it with blankets, why wouldn't they just use a cleaner to clean this? It's time for the couch to simply go in room 322. The front desk is rude when calling and even when your calling in from the room. We had to call for towels, no soap for dishes, a missing blanket for the pull out couch (only had sheets) and even the ice cube trays in the freezer where cracked. Chairs on balcony where cheap plastic chairs, can't we do better for close to $500 a night? Also this was one of their nicer ocean front rooms. It's a shame to see this hotel go down this dirty and crumbling path, it was built so strong and design works great, my father who joined us remembered going when I was young with his parents and he too was shocked to see what has happened to this hotel. My younger sister who joined us nicknamed the hotel "El CoraNono" which is perfect. Lastly when packing up we were greeted by a nice huge cricket who probably wanted to say good bye to us as he and his family were the knew comfortable inhabitants. To the owners it's not too late to change things up if you could have only heard your own employee who I honestly felt bad for. I saw him many times these past couple of days working so hard to keep up with jobs in the hotel, reason I saw him so much is because it was really just him there. I said to him the luggage carts are like gold here and it took me 20 minutes just to find one. I think they have a total of 6 for the entire 125 room hotel. He said that they need a lot more than more luggage carts and first thing is more staff, this I agreed and told him I would put my experience in writing for him, he said they are just looking the other way...they sure are and its such a shame. To the owners, if its financial troubles sell the hotel or let Morey buy the hotel. Don't let this hotel crumble, it's a sin. I would like a response from the owners or my next call will be the BBB and...
Β Β Β Read moreWe had a family trip in August and had been very excited to stay at the El Coronado as I had been coming here over 40 years (now vacationing with my children and grand children - 6 month old and 19 month old) and had recently stayed here with my mom before she passed as this is where she wanted to go, our go to in WWC. Disappointment is an understatement. We had rented a 2 bedroom, 2 bath that was supposed to accommodate 8 adults. We had spoken to the front desk prior about crib rentals, and we needed a crib for each bedroom. Upon arrival two cribs were in one bedroom, as we soon realized why as the other room had to be rearranged in order for a crib to even fit. My 7 month pregnant daughter had to climb over a bed to access clothes and suitcase as the crib was wedged in between wall and bed and the second bed could not be accessed. The pullout sofa, which we were told was located in the "family room" could not be pulled out and slept on until the kitchen table was pushed into the corner against the wall. The dispensers in the bathroom were empty for body wash and shampoo, and there was half a roll of toilet paper on the spool with no additional rolls. A sheet on the bed, no blankets to be found . Upon waking the next morning to make breakfast, found there was no toaster, only an 8 inch pan and 2 pots. This was supposed to be an efficiency apt. My husband went to the front desk twice to ask for additional pans/ toaster and was told it would be brought up after 9. Toaster arrived after 9, no additional pans or cooking utensils. We all woke up coughing and couldn't understand why. My husband and I slept on the floor the second night as the mattress was paper thin and we had the metal pushing into our bodies. We are both cancer survivors and our pain tolerance is very high and we could not spend another night on that mattress. The next morning I went to the front desk to again ask for a skillet to make pancakes , not realizing there were no mixing bowls, nor cereal bowls so I used a pot for the batter. My son's wallet and belongings all had moisture on them and when we looked up at the vent and realized the vent was filled with debris which we believed was causing all of us to cough. My husband spoke to the manager on duty whose name I think was Jermaine about changing our room. He really could care less about our concerns,. He sent a maintenance man up who never entered the room, looked at room number and said we can move you up a floor. Obviously a red flag as he didn't even go in which led us to also believe there had been a problem with this room before. We were not going up a floor, as the vents would be the same. The manager informed us the only way they would move us to a different location if we moved right then, we had 10 minutes to pack and move. My husband explained we had two infants napping, a 7 month pregnant daughter and it was not possible to vacate within 10 minutes. We were told that was the option or to stay. We checked out unfortunately a couple hours later once the babies and my daughter woke up. We were charged the full stay (the clerk on duty told me) the day we checked in and he could not remove it . Upon check in when I had given the credit card we were told the card is charged at check out which was obviously not the case. I have never written a bad review, but I felt our experience was so bad that others needed to...
