I visited Williamsburg, Virginia for five days in June of 2023 and I ate at DoG Street Pub twice. I could not have been more satisfied with with my experience. This charming restaurant not only boasts a fantastic selection of beer but is also situated within a historic building, creating an ambiance that is simply unmatched.
As a beer enthusiast, I was delighted by the wide variety of brews available. From crisp lagers to hoppy IPAs and rich stouts, this restaurant had something to satisfy every beer lover's palate. The attentive staff was knowledgeable and offered helpful recommendations to enhance my dining experience. They truly took pride in their craft, and it showed in the quality of the beer served.
What made this restaurant truly special was its location in a historic building. As I stepped inside, I was immediately transported back in time, surrounded by the unique architecture and historic charm. The ambiance was warm and inviting, providing the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable dining experience. I appreciated the attention to detail in preserving the building's heritage, adding a touch of authenticity to the overall atmosphere.
Moreover, the restaurant's convenient location within walking distance of many other shops and restaurants made it an ideal spot to explore the vibrant heart of Williamsburg. After indulging in a delectable meal, I took a leisurely stroll through the bustling streets, immersing myself in the local history. The proximity to other establishments meant that I could easily extend my evening by exploring more of the city's offerings.
Another significant advantage of this restaurant's location is its proximity to Colonial Williamsburg. For history enthusiasts like myself, being able to enjoy a delicious meal after immersing myself in the fascinating world of colonial America was an added bonus. The convenience of having this remarkable historical site just a stone's throw away truly enriched my overall experience.
In conclusion, my visit to this restaurant left me thoroughly impressed. The combination of an exceptional beer selection, a historic building, and its prime location made it an absolute standout. Whether you're a beer connoisseur, a history buff, or simply someone looking for a memorable dining experience, this restaurant has it all. Read moreA friendly reception and fair wait was met with a disappointing seating and wait following. After being seated we watched the staff greet and help those around us, yet never us. Twenty minutes go by and those seated the same time were eating their entrees. Those seated well after had appetizers and drinks. Still, we sat unattended. At 30 minutes it was clear no one was going to greet us and I made my way to the bar to seek help. A startled bartender took my friendly (truthfully) request to send the manager to our table. A prompt response from the friendly and energetic manager was the beginning of saving grace. I calmly explained the situation to the manager, with the tables near confirming the account. Expressed concern and apologies included some items being "on the house" as you might expect. The server provided was friendly and attentive. The food was satisfactory and brought out in short time. All in all the staff did their best to recover from the initial disappointment.
The recovery brought this overall review up from a one star to a three star. The manager and server provided were five star without question. Food was a four star.
The real issue here is that while we sat in waiting for 30 minutes before I had to force engagement, numerous staff tended to the surrounding tables and well noticed we sat without. Seemingly to the point that after that long, no one wanted to engage, even avoiding eye contact now, for fear of the clearly ignored guests. This is just poor service of the servers and management of personnel. It might not be your table, but it's easy to recognize an issue and if nothing else, let the right person know.

As directed by the sign, we went into the place to ask to be seated...only to be told that food was not available on the patio (despite the fact every other competing establishment on the block offers it); apparently, those tables and chairs are strictly for decorative purposes. So, we decide to just eat inside. We attempt to order the cod sandwich and are told it's on the lunch menu, which ended at 3. "Is there any way we could order it now?" asks my friend, at a wholly unreasonable 5:30pm. "No," responds the waitress, "because it's on the lunch menu...and it ended at 3. " Needless to say, we really didn't appreciate the attitude, which was present throughout our meal. She did, however, inform us that the fish and chips are the same as the sandwich...just without the bun. (Assuming buns get the evening off and leave the premises at 3.) Whatever the case, we brave the cold of the air conditioning fan above us and order the fish and chips. (Patrons next to us said they'd actually moved over a table [from ours] to escape the breeze and had been subjected to the waitress' wrath.) Happy to report, though, that when it came, the food was excellent! Hot, fresh, and lots of it. That said, the mushy peas were hardly worth adding, since there were only a couple of teaspoons and they were hidden under the mountains of other stuff. Overall, an ok experience, but I'd probably try somewhere else...
