Do you have a strange desire to know all the best hole-in-the-wall spots in town that are under the radar and no one else really knows about? Then come here, but don’t tell anyone about it. To my demise, I struggle with the latter, especially when it comes to a place like Hohl.
I love everything about Hohl, and predict it will grow to be immensely popular, maybe even exclusive. They’ve crafted a noticeable brand that is clear in every aspect of the restaurant. Their operation is a well oiled machine, even though this location has only been open for three months. Their prices are fair and the menu is exceptional: unique, elegant, and always leaving you wanting to try more. Their employees all wear blue aprons with the simple “hohl” white letters embroidered on them. Their kitchens (upstairs and downstairs) are fully visible to the customers, as well as many of their quality ingredients and serving ware. And their dining rooms (upstairs and downstairs) are warm, comfortable, well-lit, and quaint. They have an actual head chef. They put real effort into their presentation of food, and into actually making all of their food. They don’t have a sign visible from the street. They offer lattes that are $5, not $8. They do everything better than your favorite coffee shop. And honestly, it’s not just a coffee shop, it’s a restaurant. All of these elements create an environment and perception that screams quality and real care. Simple and straightforward, elegant and unique, and wrapped up in a transparent veil you can trust. There’s no messing around here, no deception in their menu, and no high prices or gimmicks. Maybe more people know about this than I realize. Maybe I’m the one that’s new to the party, and I’ve been missing out, since this is the second location already and I only just learned about it. Because it almost feels too good to be true! Well congratulations Hohl, you have a new and proud advocate in me. And regardless of whether it’s true or not, I will still view you as a hole in the wall in...
Read moreWe visited Williamsburg for the first time this past weekend. Before coming, I researched coffee places as I wanted high quality with some food options. When we pulled up to the adorable charming house on N Boundary Street I was excited. When we entered the establishment I was even more pleased. We were warmly greeted by multiple employees at 7 am on a Saturday. We ordered the oats which were the best I've ever had - those pears, berries, and white chocolate drizzle. OMG. We ordered several coffees, a kids hot cocoa, kids pancake, and chili cheese eggs, which my husband was still talking about 2 days later - how delicious they were. It is a very clean cafe with seating upstairs as well. The music playing was awesome and not too loud. Everyone was super friendly and service was fantastic. I would be there every dang day if I lived anywhere remotely close. We would definitely visit Hohl again the next time we visit Williamsburg. Thank you for delicious coffee and great service from a family of fans...
Read moreI truly can't say enough good things about Hohl. My new husband and I went here on our honeymoon. We're both huge coffee snobs, and Hohl truly blew us away. We live in a bougie coffee and food hub (Charlotte, NC), and I have never been to a place that so expertly and amazingly roasts coffee, makes coffee, crafts drinks and syrups, bakes wildly delicious pastries, and cooks mind-blowing meals. I also cannot say enough about the service. I misread the menu, and expected a side salad with my meal, the owner personally brought me the salad even though it was my mistake, and went so far as to also bring a whole box of pastries to my husband and I as a wedding gift, all at no charge. I want to uproot this place and bring it home to Charlotte with me. I wish I could give more...
