I am writing this review hoping the owners read it, but also for the benefit of fellow travelers. This hotel is very close to being a good hotel and could even be a great one, but some details really keep it from being one; at best, I would put it in the “fair to good” category. To me, just because a hotel is a budget hotel does not mean it can’t feel like a more expensive hotel that leaves a person saying, “wow, I can’t believe I got that much for so little.” The first thing I noticed about this Super 8 was that the sign in back was leaning and the sign posts were rusty with weeds growing around them. I get it, it’s just a sign, but it wasn’t a great first impression. I parked momentarily in the unlit canopy and walked inside to be greeted by a drab gray lobby. I checked in and was asked to pay a $7 per night resort fee that I was not informed of when I booked; I told the desk clerk that I wasn’t informed, and she didn’t care and charged me anyway. She handed me my keys and I went to my room which was on the third floor. I walked to the elevator and it felt like I was walking into a warehouse and there was a lot more gray paint, again not a warm and fuzzy color, but it was clean and there were a lot of coupons for local restaurants and attractions lining the corridor. I took the elevator up and stepped into the hall to get to my room. Immediately I could tell this had been refreshed recently with new carpets, paint and lighting. My room was near the end of the hall and that’s when I noticed a broken screen on the hallway window. I went into my room and the freshness continued with the carpeting, paint and even the dresser. The room wasn’t huge, but I wasn’t expecting it to be. It had a refrigerator and microwave because I had paid for a deluxe room. I put some beverages in the refrigerator and it was cold. Then, something caught my eye, it was a fly, it’s autumn in Wisconsin so I didn’t think it was that unusual to see a fly, but then I noticed the gathering of ladybugs on the ceiling and walls and more flies. I went see if a window was open but the window was not. In fact, it couldn’t open because there was a board screwed into the frame. However, the screen on the window was broken and there was a gathering of flies and ladybugs on the inside of the screen. I wondered if there was a small opening in the window where the bugs were getting in, but I couldn’t tell. Yes, I know ladybugs and flies are not really harmful to humans, but it still wasn’t fun to see a bunch of them in my room. Were the bugs putting on a show for me that was covered by my resort fee, I wondered? I left the hotel for awhile and came back and settled in and went to bed. The bed was comfortable and, thankfully ladybugs and flies aren’t much for beds, so the bed was critter free. I had to leave the TV on though because the sleep timer didn’t work (I can’t sleep without falling asleep to a TV). I woke up the next morning and decided to go to breakfast. While I wasn’t expecting much, I guess I could only describe the breakfast as drab as the gray paint adorning the walls and it is a clear sign of a hotel doing breakfast as cheaply as possibly when the plates are the flimsy paper kind that would spill food at the slightest bending. The TV was on in the lobby but with no sound and no closed captioning on so you could hear a pin drop. Even the coffee center didn’t offer lids for the cups. Again, that would have been a nice touch, but continuing with the “cheaply as possible” theme, the lack of lids didn’t surprise me. I didn’t have plans until noon this day so I thought I would answer some work emails. The wi-fi connection was unstable making it next to impossible to work, but sitting in the uncomfortable desk chair didn’t allow me to sit at the desk very long anyway, so I gave up. To sum up, with some more attention to details and upgrades, this could be a great budget hotel, but right now, I...
Read moreWell, I'm blown away with this experience. I am a local in the Wisconsin Dells area and if I have to stay in a hotel I stay at the Super 8.
This experience was different. I am a father of 5 kids and a wife. We actually purchased our first home in Coloma and in the agreement the prior owner would make renovations. We signed on the 15th and are moving in on the 1st. We left our other place we rented on the 16th. We were staying at the Super 8, and I paid a TON of money to stay there. It hurt me to know how much money I spent. Then the most embarrassing thing happened this morning. First of all, with kids they like their breakfest. I understand during the weekends they don't set up because of covid reasons and how busy it gets but being told we will get breakfest during the week just to be told "no" because they don't want to set it up.
But over the last 5 days I made numerous complaints that I couldn't sleep because of the people screaming above, below and too the side at all hours of the night. I also made complaints that the smell of weed was seeping into our room all night every night. We didn't get a new set of sheets once. Our sheets had stains on them. Yesterday night I tried to to my laundry which is 2 dollars for the washer to find my clothes thrown on the floor twice till I had to actually sit in there and supervise the washer. It took 14 bucks to get one load of laundry done.. ( also made a compaint.) But this is what really set the cherry on top.
I walk down this morning to extend our stay to the last day of the month to get to the first and he strings me along saying I'll get to you I have a long line then I'll call your room. He calls and I walk down there my kids are right next to me. It's 12:05 P.M. he tells me I am on the "do not rent list" because he has me on Camara doing a drug deal with someone that's no authorized to stay. That women was my wife who works through out the day and gets to the hotel at 7pm at night with out 7 month old baby girl. And that drug was here formula. After he tells me that he says I have 20 minutes to leave... my kids hear this, my mind is blown away and this is after I have spent 1,000.00 and being a loyal local..
This was embarrassing, this whole stay was humiliation. I'm sure nothing will be done to make it right. But...
Read more3 night stay. Checked in Thursday, woman at front desk no personality, no small talk, not even a smile with any encounter. Same with the male who worked nights. Only friendly face at front desk was at checkout Sunday morning, and the housekeeping staff. Beds are like sleeping on a piece of plywood with a mattress pad covering it. AC/Heating units are oddly placed, and in the first room we were in very loud ( like a diesel engine loud) and there was no comfort zone, either too hot or off ( off at night because it was so loud you could not sleep ) and then too chilly in January, even with warmer weather. No way to adjust to a comfortable temperature. Room size was fine, no closet, just a rack attached to the wall, which could be a safety hazard if you knocked your head on it. Even with outlets on new lamps, which was cool, not enough outlets on one side of the bed. Bathroom... floor is covered with vinyl floor covering that is so slippery, it's dangerous even when dry, in our first room the bathroom floor was squishy. Floors are very uneven, not a good thing, especially if anyone has balance issues. Our first room, on our last night, water started pouring from the 3rd floor room above us, via the fan in the ceiling of the bathroom, literally flowing, might explain the squishy floor. Front desk clerk was so nonchalant about it. Moved us to a new room, which was fine, but seriously, water through an electrical device, and no concern? If this building was remodeled within the last year, you should demand a refund from your contractors, horrible job. Thursday was not so bad noise wise, but mostly empty. Friday and Saturday, kids running rampant and every door that opened, slammed shut. Good lord. Does not one have any courtesy anymore? Does hotel staff not do anything about the noise? Mini fridge would have been nice, only amenities were a hair dryer and mini coffee pot, and TV. The photos on the wall where a headboard would normally be, are beautiful, but not functional. I wanted to lean back and relax. You don't lean back on a picture. Free breakfast, meh... Could be a lot better with little effort and cost. Likely will not stay at this Super 8 again. Worst experience...
