DO NOT STAY HERE!! I had the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel. It all started with my reservation call. I asked to reserve two adjoining rooms so myself, my husband, and my young children would have enough space to be comfortable. The reservation person stated that even though they had adjoining rooms, they cannot be reserved. Why bother having adjoining rooms if you can’t book them? When we arrived to check in, there was food and spilled soda all over the lobby. The front desk staff was rude and could’ve cared less that we arrived. We told the front desk that I know it’s early to check in at 9:30am, but could we please have the first available room so our young children could lay down to nap in the afternoon? The staff did not care and simply stated check in is at 4pm. So we went about our day at returned at 12:30pm. Of course our room was still not ready and the staff continued to say check in is at 4pm. We understand that, but you’re telling me there are absolutely no rooms clean yet? So we make our way to the pool to swim for the afternoon while we wait. The public restrooms are closed so our children had to go to the bathroom in their pull-ups. The pool area smelled like marijuana. At 3pm my children were very tired and anxious to lay down. I again went up to the front desk and asked if our room was ready almost 6 hours after we talked in the morning. Yet again our room was still not ready. Several groups of people ahead of me in line received keys to their rooms. I asked why they got room keys and our room is not ready? The front desk and manager were rude to me and stated that our room was preassigned and was not clean. I asked for a different room and they stated that all rooms were preassigned and could not be modified. I asked why they couldn’t mark our preassigned room to be cleaned first since we checked in so early? The front desk said we don’t do that. I said my children really need to lay down and they said that’s your problem check in is at 4pm. Finally at 4pm our room was ready. The room was dirty and the smoke detector was pulled out of the ceiling with a washcloth stuffed inside. There were people coming and going loudly all night long and the police were called outside. This was so horrible we decided not to stay another night. When I told the front desk we were leaving early due to our experience, they just said they’d let housekeeping know. They could’ve cared less that I was upset. Please do...
Read morePrice point is reasonable. Subpar to basic experience. This isn't a 5 star hotel and you shouldn't expect it. The value of room is in alignment to cost considering the area. The hotel check in and check out process is seamless. You have to check to make sure hotel staff cleaned room properly. I had leftover items in fridge from the previous guest (I threw it out). Room was near indoor pool and smell of chlorine was strong. I either adjusted to scent or the smell lessened the following day. Other issues...bed was clean but things like linen and shower curtain needed to be retired. My family was there to celebrate the life of someone we lost last year on Labor Day - we had a number of rooms. It wasn't a time to be snooty as the price point allowed us to better afford the trip. I've stayed in all types of hotels from 5 star to 2 star. This wasn't the best experience but it also wasn't the worst. The staff were pleasant. Improvement opportunities would be cleaning the hallway floors as it really is the introduction of a lowered expectations; they need TLC or to be replaced (1st floor near the pool). Be willing to retire some sheets and shower curtains. Going into a room and seeing linen that is no where near the "white" it should be is disappointing. The shower curtain as well. I saw other rooms and this was not in all rooms. I am appreciative of the price point because it allowed family to afford it and we had a pretty large group. Not the best and definitely not the worst experience. Cell phone service was bad for me and several people in my party but that wasn't a big deal and absolutely nothing that could be corrected by hotel. Great location - close to downtown Wisconsin Dells, other stores and restaurants. Great value - you have to make sure room is up to par. I think all hotels you need to do your own...
Read moreThe staff at the Best Western Ambassador Hotel in Wisconsin Dells were the highlight of our stay—friendly, helpful, and responsive. Unfortunately, the hotel itself needs significant attention. While some updates like new carpet are noticeable, it’s not enough to make up for the overall condition.
The bathroom was not clean when we arrived—floors were filthy, and I had to clean it myself before we could use it. The pull-out sofa mattress was stained and unpleasant, with no mattress pad provided. I ended up purchasing one just to make it usable.
The worst part of our stay was the behavior of other guests. Almost every time I used an entrance other than the main lobby, people were smoking cigarettes or marijuana. The hallways often smelled of pot, and on two separate occasions, the smell even made its way into our room.
We tried using the outdoor pool one morning around 10:30 AM and encountered groups drinking, vaping, and smoking both cigarettes and marijuana—right at the pool and nearby tables. The language used was foul and inappropriate for families. A hotel employee did stop by to enforce the no-smoking, no-drinking policy, but as soon as they left, the guests resumed what they were doing. We ended up leaving because the smell was unbearable.
The location is also less than ideal—far from the main attractions of the Dells—and the price does not reflect the quality or experience. For the same cost, you can stay at much nicer hotels like the Hilton Garden Inn or Holiday Inn, which are in better locations and far better condition.
The staff truly did their best, but the condition of the hotel and the behavior of other guests made for a...
