Holiday Inn Express & Suites Atlanta N - Woodstock by IHG — Hotel in Woodstock

I travel a lot, and I tend to expect a lot out of hotels. I've noticed that every property that stands out to me has a central theme, at least one rock star employee. This hotel's is Sandra. She was there when we checked in, at 10 pm. Was bright and cheerful and efficient getting us checked in quickly on a top floor, away from the elevator. Perfect. Then I noticed the corner lamp didn't work I called and asked her if there was a trick, she said she would be right up to help, but just after hanging up I found the wall switch that operated all the room lights. I tried to call her back but she was already getting off the elevator heading for our room. I apologized for her making the trip needlessly and she laughed and said all the rooms were different and was curious how I got it turned on. I showed her the wall switch and we had a laugh. Before she left she noticed we were using the pull out sofa and checked the wardrobe to make sure there was a bed in a bag in the wardrobe. Just that little extra something she didn't have to do. A few minutes later we went down to check out the market corner with snacks and goodies and chatted about what was open in the area, she said unfortunately everything had just closed, and even got on the computer to look up times for us. Another extra little something. We decided to pick up a few microwaveable meals, and she walked us over to the closed kitchen, opened the door and told us to get whatever we needed in the way of utensils, plates and anything else we needed to be comfortable. Another little step that made us feel welcome and cared for. She never gave us the impression that we were an inconvenience, in fact we felt like we were the only guests in the hotel. This employee is phenomenal. One employee can make or ruin a guest's experience, but I can say Sandra is the rockstar of this property. Regarding the property; the hotel is in a very safe and clean and well kept area that I felt very comfortable in. Literally within walking distance to a nice mall. It is located close to a busy and pretty loud highway. It is separated by landscape trees but the noise carries to inside some of the rooms. If you are sensitive to notice you might ask for a room on the back side of the hotel. This hotel is still my first choice in the area, and the road noise wasn't an issue for me, just something I noticed.

The rooms were clean and updated and very comfortable, but the bed was phenomenal.

The breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had. Pancakes, eggs sausage turkey sausage, yogurt, fresh fruit, muffins and pastries, hard boiled eggs and oatmeal with toppings. Not just the selection, but the quality also. The coffee was even good!

On the negative side, the pool was just okay. Much smaller than it looks online, and not really on par with the rest of the hotel. But that wasn't a big consideration for us.

I like this property so much I actually plan to stay here...

The location is great. It's easily viewable from the highway and next to an outlet mall with places to eat. The continental breakfast is better than most. All the staff that I encountered during my stay were fantastic - friendly and no attitudes. My pre check-in room requests were met as well. However, the extra pillows that I requested did not come with pillow cases on them. That is the only reason that I'm giving a 4 rating instead of a 5 rating. Other than that, the room was clean, spacious, and everything had been updated. The bed was comfortable and the 4 pillows that the room comes with have two types of comfort; one set is firm and the other set is soft. Nice big screen TV and I love the blackout shades. And even though the lobby pantry could use a bigger variety of items, at least it is open 24 hours a day. The lobby is also updated and overall pleasing to the eye - including the exterior of the hotel. Even though the hotel is just a bit pricey, you are paying for The location is great. It is a comparable price point to the other hotels in the area and still a good value for your money. One more thing, the free WiFi (if you are an IHG Rewards member) was excellent; did not lose connection during my 3 day stay and it was also a high speed connection. I travel weekly and I stay in hotels. I read this property was new, so I used my airline points because I was staying one night. I walked into the hotel and the GSR stared at me like I didn’t belong there. She finally asked could she help me. No friendly greeting. She got my information and I ask could she put my reward number on there. She said “Oh you’re a member?” She became super nice at that point. She told me where my room was. The room was ok, it had a odor to it. I believe it was the fridge. It had a sour odor. The shower floor is very nasty. Had brown dirty. Also the chemical they are using was still on it. Just remember if you are using ecolab chemical in order for the chemical to work you must use a foaming nozzle and hot water. Do not spray and wipe off that doesn’t clean anything. Anywho. I carry cleaning chemicals with because I need it to be clean. Hair was on the floor in the bathroom. And the in entrance way the floor was sticky with a prior guest coffee or juice not sure which. The bed was nice and comfortable. I checked out at 11. I walked to the desk two ladies at the desk. No one said a thing to me. I just placed the key down FINALLY the GSR said are you checking out? I can help you because the other GSR looked at me like I was bothing her. always remember two things will keep people coming back friendly service and clean rooms.
