We booked this hotel many months in advance based on reviews, we wanted a nice cosy and comfortable local hotel located in the old city of Khiva. Despite having booked via Booking.com, having received a confirmation and even having had some correspondence with the hotel about arrival times before they unexpectedly at the very last moment unilaterally cancelled our entire 3 night stay reservation leaving us with huge problems in high season. They literally cancelled while we were already on the flight to Uzbekistan, and only by chance I saw their cancellation email during a quick stop changing flights. With September/October being high season in Uzbekistan of course one day before our intended stay all other nice and affordable options in Khiva were fully booked and we ended up having to pay double the price and stay outside the city centre for this reason. Their excuse was that new staff had not properly checked the list, but as said we booked months ahead via Booking and even corresponded with the hotel in the meantime. Extremely unpleasant start of our otherwise fantastic experience in the country of Uzbekistan. Never experienced any other issues with any other hotels there. Read moreThe hotel is located in the original madrassa and close to the centre of the Old Town. As such it is full of character and the family running it did it with care and enthusiasm.||||Nice touch was the welcome reception: hot beverages and snacks all served in the courtyard.||||All rooms open to the courtyard. They are tastefully decorated with some period furniture. There was plenty of wardrobe space. Bathrobes and flimsy slippers were also provided. The fire sensors seem to have been taped off, probably to cover irritating flashing lights.||||Wardrobe was hidden behind the mirror doors built-in the side wall which made the room looking less clattered. The only window was above the entrance door.||||Watch out for low door frames, both external and (even lower!) internal, leading to the bathroom. To make it worse, they are all finished with sharp edges (?!) so plenty of opportunities for serious injury especially for taller guests. ||||Bathroom was spacious, no toiletries were provided.||||Breakfast was served in the central piazza of the hotel and it was quite varied and tasty with eggs done to order.||||Overall, great place to stay but some finishing touches...
Read moreThis hotel has so much character. Everything about this hotel is just spectacular. Great family hotel, center walking distance to everything, good breakfast buffet and big room AC mediocre not strong enough but doable. The cleaning lady touches all personal stuff when she comes for daily room service. I have never experienced such a thing. Her job is just clean the room, put towels and toilet paper and leave. She literally relocated all my personal stuff and my clothes in my room that I had organised and I had to look for them to find them when I came to my room in the afternoon, she threw away a personal item. I don’t want to take stars down for the hotel bec they really are very kind, helpful and friendly staff. It’s family business and the owner is super nice and they work hard. But please tell your cleaning lady not to touch people’s personal stuff or throw away personal things. When I told the hotel about my room cleaning experience, they said they just hired a new...
