In short: M Hotel Da Nang is the worst supposedly “good” hotel I’ve ever stayed at, and I would not stay here again.
Here’s a little more nuance:
Pros: Central location, right by the beach. However, a busy road separates it from the sand, and the hotel does not provide its own beach chairs. The surrounding area has a good selection of restaurants and cafes. The maintenance team deserves credit. They worked around the clock and efficiently fixed any issues we encountered (we got to meet them three times in five days). Solid breakfast. The doormen where nice.
Cons: Extreme noise levels: The rooms are all incredibly noisy. The windows are thin, sliding-style doors with gaps, making it feel like an open window at all times. Given that the hotel is on a major road, this is a baffling design choice. We could hear constant honking, traffic noise, loud beach bar music, and even a street vendor who sang karaoke and made announcements late into the night. We started on the 17th floor, moved to the 21st, and still needed earplugs to sleep. I can’t imagine what it’s like in the lower floors. Lack of privacy: In our first oceanfront room (left side of the building) the bathroom “window” was separated from a public smoking area with only wooden pleated blinds. To make matters worse, it was broken when we arrived, meaning anyone outside could see in. (See photo) It was fixed after our complaint, but even in working condition, this is an awful setup. The first room also had a flimsy connecting door, through which we could hear every word from the neighboring guests. On day two, in addition to the noise, our sink started leaking and smelling awful, forcing us to switch rooms which we gladly did. The second room (right side) had no connecting door, which was an improvement. However, the shower again only had wooden blinds on its huge window, meaning pool guests from the neighboring hotel could have a glimpse inside. Again, not the level of privacy you‘d expect. Unfortunately the second room did not have any storage space and was clearly smaller which hotel staff disputed. The hotel has only three elevators, which is simply not enough for a building of this size. Wait times were consistently long. On our first day, all elevators worked, but from then on, at least one was broken daily. At one point, two were out of service at the same time. One of them was broken twice. A scheduled fire drill ended up being a chaotic mess, occurring at three different times over two days and outside the announced times. The sirens were blaring multiple times, and at one point, we were unable to access our floor for 30 minutes. Fire drills are necessary, but they could be handled far more efficiently and with better communication. I tried to use the fire escape stairs but the lights didn‘t switch on and the sirens were even louder here so I gave that plan up. One of the biggest disappointments was the lack of hospitality. When we asked if we could drop off already stamped postcards at the front desk (something literally every single hotel I have ever stayed in has offered without issue), they instead sent us to a post office 30 minutes away. After spending an hour and a half walking to multiple Google Maps-listed post offices (which were either closed or non-existent), I asked again. This time, they mentioned there was a post office on the way to the airport….
Our stay was a string of disappointments, and I truly regret choosing this hotel for our five-day visit. Having stayed in numerous 4- and 5-star hotels across Asia - including in other Vietnamese cities - I can confidently say that M Hotel Da Nang doesn’t even come close to its supposed rating.
Fun fact for tech enthusiasts: I use a smart ring to track my sleep, and my nights at M Hotel Da Nang were by far the worst of my last thirty days. And I was on vacation for most of that time.

I arrived at M hotel, receptionist wasn’t really friendly, let alone asking how was the journey there. She was busy with her phone!! And gave a look to wait until she finishes with her phone.
I got my room, i paid for an ocean front room- not so cheap for Da Nang price. My room was on the 23rd floor and the hotel only has 3 lifts. When you stay at the upper floor, you will feel that taking the lift is like taking a shuttle bus, it stops to pick up other passengers along the way. And sometimes it takes soooo long to go to the lobby or to your room. And guess what, my room had no phone! So i couldn’t communicate with the reception, in room dining, spa and any other department. I wanted to order in room dining, but i couldn’t! I had to take ‘the shuttle bus’ back to the lobby to ask why there is no phone in a five star hotel room. Not to mention the wifi in my room wasn’t working either! The receptionist said some of the room hasn’t had phones installed yet. I beg you pardon? I then asked to speak to a manager, she said it’s late, there is no manager. Didn’t she know i used to work in hotel industry, there is always manager on duty around the clock in a 5 star hotel. So i did ask for their MOD and she called him. I then explained my situation about the phone and the wifi and how sick i was that day, i just wanted to eat and rest. The MOD went around and around, saying the IT manager is not here, there is nothing he can do now. I did ask multiple times if he can provide me with a WhatsApp number as my point of contact. He refused to give any WhatsApp contact, but gave me the hotel phone number instead, well.. I don’t have Vietnamese number, i cannot call! I explained this multiple time, he seemed careless. I then said, okay whatever i need to eat as i have to take my medicine. He then took me to a cigar lounge to eat!! I was sick and i could smell cigar all around! Anyway i ordered their hoi an chicken rice, it was the WORST chicken rice i ever had in my life. First it took half an hour to be served, the chicken was chewy and cold, the sticky rice was dry outside and mushy inside (heated up with microwave for sure!). I know how com ga should taste like, i used to live in Da Nang for one year!
The next day, NOBODY followed up with me. So i left my room to see some friends for around 5hr. When i came back- my room wasn’t made up! Unfortunately there was no PHONE in the room, so then i went downstairs again and spoke with the receptionist asking for a manager. Instead of a manager, a reception supervisor came to see me, at that point i didn’t want to keep repeating my story, so i re-asked for a MANAGER. I FINALLY managed to speak to a reception manager, Mr.Trung. He said sorry our housekeeping is busy. What kind of excuse is that? I paid a premium room rate compared to other hotel around, and i couldn’t even get my room cleaned??? I then asked again about the phone problem, he finally agreed to give me a WhatsApp contact! Phew…
But then, the climax of the experience happened when the housekeeping threw away my last dose of antibiotics! And that particular antibiotic could only be bought back in my home country. The funny thing was the housekeeping didn’t clear up my in room dining plates (disgusting i know) but threw away my medicine! I couldn’t finish the course of antibiotics and it could end up very bad! I told mr.Trung this.. he tried to find a new one at the local pharmacy, but nothing.. And the last resort he came up with is to offer me 1 night for free and tell me to go to another hotel with ‘better service’ (i was supposed to have 2 more nights at M hotel- but they suggested me to check out a day earlier and waived 1 night fee) they recommended radisson blue or 4 points by sheraton lol!! I’ve never experienced such a thing before, the desperation and lack of...

So, the most important thing of any hotel stay should be the rooms right? Well, sound proofing is literally non-existent in the rooms at all. We stayed on the 9th floor, and we could literally hear everything outside on the main road, especially the honking of bikes, cars and everything else 24/7! You could even hear a dog barking from the road below, so it's absolutely mind boggling that it can be that loud and noisy! You will also be able to hear anyone exiting the lift and walking down the hallway. Best to bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper...
Breakfast was ok, but definitely could be better from a 5-star hotel. Can be really hectic during peak times, so best to plan your eating time. When walking in for breakfast on our 2nd day of stay, the lady staff at the reception counter probably had a bad morning or bad night or was being absolutely sarcastic for no good reason whatsoever, when she told my other half, "Enjoy your whatever" in a really unwelcoming tone. We were definitely left shocked and bewildered like what and why would one say such a thing to your guest!
The complimentary afternoon tea was an absolute joke and disgrace in my books for a "5 star" hotel. Food choice was REALLY LIMITED (Some small pieces of cakes, pastry and fruits only). Rather amusing was that they don't serve coffee at all during afternoon tea! We asked the staff, can we even buy a cup of coffee then from you, but they mentioned NO. "It's afternoon tea now, so we only serve tea. No coffee". Perhaps it's best not to even offer such a thing if there's no sincerity or want to provide such service and experiences to your guests.
The massage at the Spa; another interesting level of service by a "5-star" hotel. There is no disclaimer form provided for you to fill up your details, as well as areas of your body you want the masseuse to avoid or focus on. First time ever, we had a full body massage and we didn't get our feet cleaned and washed before starting treatment. Also, weirdly the masseuse wasn't wearing any uniform but just plain clothes like a t-shirt and shorts. Again, a very strange thing for a 5-star hotel to have such standards.
That said, the location of the hotel is great, with lots of shops around within walking distance to drink, eat and shop. This is the only 5 stars the hotel deserves.
And lastly, the staff...During our 3 days 2 night stay, only on our last day during breakfast, a very nice lady staff named Thao asked us how was our stay and and everything else. She is the only one that made the difference and actually have care for the hotel guest. We could see that she was asking others too, when even the managers or supervisors on duty didn't bother at all.
Judging from the reviews here on Google, you can also tell that the establishment doesn't care about their guests and customers. There is not a single reply from the management on feedback...
