My kid's class paid a visit to Sapa as their gift for the 11th grade performance. They googled and booked the hotel eventually. Staff at frontdesk was friendly and the hotel location to center of Sapa are good points of the hotel to me at the beginning. However, at the end of the trip, I told myself and many other parents who were in our group shared the same thought with me that the service men were doing those on purpose. The contract indicated breakfast included with menu of 3 choices (additional charge and we accepted, of course) but the chef of the next door restaurant told us only a single choice and I had to claim for another then they accepted uncomfortably. The alley is too small, available for only 01 compact car at a time so you will need to carry your bag from the mainroad to check-in. Not very far but it's not comfortable :). They successfully convinced my kids to hire a tour-guide, van and also lunch and dinner from the hotel. The guide asked me to buy Cat Cat entrance ticket in advanced to avoid queuing next morning as our plan but I found an amount of total 4 tickets he gave me had date one day earlier than ours. Pushed back and he admitted the cheating and changed. The restaurant was dirty and packed with tourists (probably high comm) so services was terrible. Credit Card is accepted here but you are required to pay additional 3% which is very strange in this field (hotel, restaurant...). The van services was also not good but acceptable. We asked for an official invoice for our stay and they requested to pay VAT 10%. When we asked the hotel duty manager for help and his response was only negative and and we told him it's against the law he said he welcome law enforcement to check anytime as if he has covers everything :p. I've been traveling for nearly 20years round the globe and many times to Sapa itself but this is the worst experience I have had so I decided to...
Read moreMe and my group were looking for a nice, cheap hotel to stay at during our last day in Sapa. We had a full day of activities planned in the village nearby that we could not be late for. We called the Himalayan Sapa Hostel and were told there were three rooms available for us to check into immediately so we arrived with our baggage and suitcases. Upon arrival, the receptionist told us the rooms were not available and that we had to leave our luggage in an unlocked room that was obviously occupied while we were gone for the day. We were obviously wary about this and expressed our concerns. The receptionist told us we can leave our belongings and wait until the owner cane back to express this concern. This put a damper on our plans but we decided to wait. When the owner came back he said the exact same thing and urged us to leave our belongings with them. We were frustrated and expressed him that we did not want our stuff stolen. He continued by cursing at us saying that foreigners are so mistrustful and that if we wanted a room we needed to leave our bags. Needless to say, we grabbed our things and left all while the owner was screaming at us. We moved down the street to Palm Tree Hotel Sapa with an equal rate and a much much better view of Sapa Lake. Traveller’s advice: Do not leave your belongings if you are suspicious!
UPDATE: Me and my brother posted a review and the owner actually called us while we were on our excursion to the village to scream at us and threatened us unless we take the review down. Fearing for our safety (since we were about two buildings away), we decided to wait until we left the area to post this review. We just wanted the owner to handle the situation more gracefully and understand our concerns instead of trying to pressure us into leaving our belongings in an unlocked and...
Read moreMy time at Himalaya Hostel was wonderful! I stayed here a total of 10 days. Hotel rooms and a dorm room are both available. The dorm beds were extremely comfortable and the staff went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. They’re still in the process of finishing some minor things in the dorm room and rooftop area, but that didn’t take away from my experience staying here. The included breakfast has local options as well as western options, and there is always hot tea available in the lobby. When the room was cold (in December), the guys instantly went out to get a heater for the room. They helped me with my cable car ticket, bus ticket, motorbike rental, and more! They really made me feel like family. The hostel is also in a great location next to the lake so it was easy to walk around town every day! *If you're riding your bicycle through the country, be sure to stop by here! You'll be able to exchange great stories...
