Sapa Legend
Stayed with them 1 night as part of our Sapa tour. We did not personally book this hotel as it was done through our tour package.
The good: Nice lobby, easy check-in. Staff is very nice. Room was decent size. Bed was comfortable. Hot shower.
The bad: No AC.
When I first noticed that the thermostat in the room was off, I called down to Reception. The man at the reception told me to check if a power switch for the AC has been turned on. I checked and did not see anything indicating power for AC. I told the receptionist as such. This time he told me that they control everything centrally to maintain a temperature of 20 Celsius, so I should open the "window" if it's too hot. Too tired to care, I accepted.
Note: There is no communication or translation error, I speak fluent Vietnamese and used it with the Reception.
I checked for a window, there are none. Only a door to the balcony. Our room was on the 2nd floor, facing a noisy street filled with shops, so we didn't feel safe leaving our balcony entrance open through the night. We kept the door closed. In the middle of the night it got very hot and humid, resulting really bad sleep quality for me.
I also noticed that a few clothing items I leave our did not dry overnight, as well as the shower / tub. In other hotels we have stayed in, everything dries completely overnight. This hotel will have a bad mold problem if this damp condition is allowed to persist.
Every hotel we have stayed with in Vietnam ranging from 3 stars to 5 stars have individual thermostats.
No AC is unpleasant, but what made this even more so annoying is because it seems this hotel and its management are fully aware of the AC deficit, but prefers to misdirect guests when first asked about the problem. I have read other reviews about the lack of AC (or even heating) at Sapa Legend, and management always responds defensively instead of correcting their strategy.
Management: Before replying with "reasons", truly examine your practices. Remember, tourism statistics show that 95% of tourists don't return to Vietnam mainly due to unprofessionalism and...

My experience was marred by the unprofessional behavior of the front desk staff. One of the front desk staffs (without wearing blazer)was very rude. When I asked a few simple questions regarding hotel amenities, the staff member responded in a condescending tone and appeared uninterested in assisting. He even demand us to come to front desk while we are awaiting for our taxi. Not even a thank you or warmth welcome from him. When we are paying and checking whether they are accepting a card, he showing a sarcastic face while replying, "Anything!". When we about to leave the hotel and I greeted with thank you, he totally just ignored and talking to his colleague (which is at least more polite than him).
I understand that evasic courtesy and professionalism are expected in any customer-facing role. This experience definitely left a negative impression on what could have been an otherwise pleasant stay. I hope the management addresses this issue, as it is a key aspect of guest experience.
Would not recommend unless this issue is resolved. The location is decent, but there's many hotels nearby. Room is kinda stuffy...
