A restaurant isn't only judged by its food, but also by its value and service. The first time, I experienced racism in my own country. We arrived when the place was empty and ordered grilled chicken for the main course. The waitress was nice and friendly. She said that grilled chicken takes 30-40 minutes to cook. We were willing to wait and ordered other food and some salads. After that, few French customers, Spanish customers and a big group of Korean customers arrived .They just served ahead shrimp salad (the shrimp smelled very badly) and fried corn for us. After about 30 minutes, they served Stir-fried bamboo shoots. We were still waiting main course. Even after 1 hour when everyone received their food and almost finished, they just served 3 dishes for us. A man (seems Restaurant manager) carefully catered and said sorry to Spanish customers behind us but ignored us. When we complained about slow service, the waitress explained that other customers booked in advance, even without apologizing for late serve. As the rest of the order had not arrived we decided to cut our losses and leave. We wanted to talk with the restaurant manager but the waitress said the manager wasn't here. They cater to big tour groups so maybe not the right choice for us. They only prefer foreigners than Vietnamese people. I think they should have hanged a sign on its door: We only serve to the foreign customer / We don’t serve to Vietnamese. It seems they try to get as many guests as possible without care for the quality since repeat business from the same customers is not expected. Not a value for money place to dine as I believe the meals are not cheap and the service was pretty bad. We had to pay to racism, annoyance and a terrible memory. They corporate with tour guides to get customers so they don’t care about their service. It is probably the most expensive restaurant in Sapa, so I guess tour guides will get a commission. We strongly suggest you take a deeper look should you be considering this restaurant...
Read moreAttention to all travelers seeking an authentic taste of Sapa, Vietnam: exercise caution when considering dining at Indigo, a restaurant that shamelessly takes advantage of tourists by serving an appalling set menu. The dishes presented are not only cheaply made but also lack any semblance of flavor or care in their preparation.
Indigo's version of "potato soup" might as well be lukewarm mashed potatoes hastily thrown together, devoid of any seasoning or effort. The salad appears as though it's been assembled by someone oblivious to the art of creating a palatable dish. The mains, chicken, and fish, are a pitiful excuse for culinary fare, tasting bland and utterly unremarkable.
It's blatantly evident that Indigo is capitalizing on unsuspecting visitors by peddling subpar dishes that cost close to nothing to prepare. Their cynical exploitation of tourists seeking authentic local experiences is not only misleading but also a blatant disregard for the essence of Vietnamese cuisine.
Even the dessert, an attempt to salvage leftover melon and pear trimmings, fails to distract from the overall abysmal dining experience.
In conclusion, steer clear of Indigo if you seek to savor the true flavors of Sapa. Their profit-driven, tasteless offerings are an insult to both travelers' expectations and the rich culinary heritage of this...
Read moreWe came in here at 9pm after another restaurant we chose was closed. We had duck in honey and ginger, sweet potatoes chips, and grilled salmon with chips. The food deco is beautiful but the duck is a bit chewy. The menu in English is very simple, hence while we expected sweet potato chips, what were served were more of deep fried balls of potatoes and flour. They said they ran out of salad for the grilled salmon hence though the salmon portion was huge in size, it was dry at the top and did not take us long to feel like we could not enjoy the dish. The staff after my complaint managed to produce a plate of salad which made the dish more enjoyable. The watermelon juice was fresh. The restaurant seems veey popular with Vietnamese and Korean tourists. The guests however left used tissues and opened instant noddles packets (used in hot pot dishes) along the window sills and they were not cleaned by staff though they seem to have many staff working. Guess we can't complain at 9pm at night but for Westerners, you might find the restaurant not as clean as some of the smaller restaurants nearby. A redo of the menu to highlight ingredients would be useful for English...
