Beware if you purchase season tickets and contract Covid. There are no special considerations as a season ticket holder. Now that there is "no longer a government mandate", their policy around Covid has "reverted to what it was pre-covid". Why does the world seem to think Covid has gone away or is not still killing hundreds of people weekly? It still needs to be considered an exception because it is STILL DANGEROUS! Whether or not there is a mandate does not change this fact. Covid hasn't become like a cold or flu and it NEVER WILL.
Qld Theatre will not even move tickets for a final performance to another play. Let alone consider credits or partial refunds - which I did not ask for after the manager (Mads?) advised our only option was to "move the tickets to an earlier performance this week”. Ummm... ok, sure, let's go out tonight fully infectious instead, maybe we can pass the virus on to some of your more vulnerable patrons. What an excellent policy, designed to encourage people to do the wrong thing. Ill-considered and stupidity incarnate.
Anyone considering season tickets would be better off not, and booking each play as it comes up, and booking first nights, not final nights (which is my strong recommendation) because Covid isn't going anywhere. And unfortunately, nor is Qld Theatre's moronic policy around it.
And yes, I do appreciate the business POV that Covid cases are not Qld Theatre's fault and they still need to make money, and that some idiots out there will abuse the policy - but is it good business to permanently lose season ticket holders? Because that's what just happened here. Poor goodwill policy is a shortsighted business strategy that inevitably has worse long-term...
Read moreI have been going to the Queensland Theatre productions forever, and much more regularly in recent years. This year I took out a 6 Play Subscription and as with plays in previous years, the three productions I have already seen - Pride & Prejudice, Calamity Jane, and Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica - were fantastic.
Tonight’s play, Dear Son, in the Bille Brown Theatre - a fantastic space, with great sight lines from just about every seat - was a very different type of production and again, it was wonderful in a completely different way. A powerful thought provoking play with powerful performances from the five actors, and brilliant staging.
I always enjoy the great atmosphere and setting of the QTC, with its fairy light lit courtyard and convivial indoor bar space, and there is a great selection of drinks, and a tasty limited food menu.
The QTC Team are unfailingly friendly and professional, and tonight I particularly appreciated the special assistance of Bec at the Box Office. Thanks so much Bec! Seats were perfect 💯
Every year I love the variety of QTC productions, the Play Briefings, (chaired by the very engaging Artistic Director, Daniel Evans) along with the Q&A Performances with the Cast and Creatives. I always try and book my tickets for that night.
So proud of QTC, and look forward to attending many more performances and play briefings in the Bille Brown Theatre or at The Playhouse at QPAC.
Congratulations and thank you to Criena (Criena Gehrke Chief Executive), Daniel and every one of the team. Please keep up the...
Read moreWe had the privilege of watching Dear Son at Queensland Theatre, and it was an experience that met us right where we were—grieving, remembering and holding space for all that’s been lost and all that still connects us.
Having recently farewelled our beloved Mom, and with Dad having passed years ago, this production struck a deeply personal chord. Through every word, pause, and letter, we felt Dad’s presence so strongly—almost as if he was sitting beside us. The show became more than a performance—it became a moment of communion with memory, spirit and love.
The performance was raw, heartfelt and beautifully layered—each monologue delivered with honesty and grace. The use of personal letters gave the show a deeply personal and emotional heartbeat, inviting the audience into an intimate space of truth-telling, healing and reflection.
Queensland Theatre continues to lead with courage by platforming First Nations voices in such a respectful and powerful way. The staging, direction and sound design created a sacred space—simple, effective and deeply grounding.
Dear Son is more than a play. It’s a collective moment of listening. A tribute. A conversation. A bridge.
We left feeling moved, challenged and incredibly...
