I was fairly excited to have lunch here reading previous reviews. I cake for lunch and the place was dead. Maybe 2 other tables but they had left before I even had my mains. I ordered the lunch banquet so that I could try a little bit of everything.
Appies were great. Tasty and we'll seasoned. The mains took ages to makefor whatever reason (again, the restaurant was dead). so really there shouldn't have been a reason why it took the kitchen so long but I'll give them benefit of doubt that they were prepping for dinner time. The kitchen upstairs is very open so clients can look and directly see the chef's prepping the food. I sat Very close. I sat so close I could hear one of the chef's swearing at one of his co-workers. I was so shocked that firstly, that type of language was used and secondly that that type of behaviour is allowed in the work space. I felt so awful for the young man that was getting verbally bashed. As I was watching the chef who belittled his colleague, I saw him dip his finger into a sauce pan and taste it. Totally okay, you are doing what chef's do thinking hell wash his hands after..... Nope.... Didn't wash. Didn't even use a spoon. Just dipped that same licked up finger back in the pan and tasted it again . I understand that heat destroys germs but at the end of the day that is just point blank not allowed in a hospitality setting.
I will not support companies that : A. Allow unprofessional and misconduct behaviour towards each other B. Contaminate food
Because of this, I lost my appetite and did not enjoy the food at all. The food itself was eh. The main course was drenched in oil. Everything was smothered in oil. You got so full from just the oil that you actually weren't even able to eat the food. The pork in the sour stew was over cooked...
Read moreWe arrived in south bank so wanted to try a place near by our hotel and this place looked suffice. We arrived at what we thought was the entrance and after the doors opened, we went upstairs to where they were serving people so I guess during the day the top side of the restaurant is opened as I've seen during the night the bottom part is opened up.
We decided on the lunch banquet as it looked alright and should be enough for our family with 2 small kids to just share the meals if we just ordered for 2 adults. The initial starter meals came out in a timely manner and they were nice to give us extra steamed duck buns for our kids too. We enjoyed the Wagyu dumplings and then salmon tartare but the sesame cracker was different that we've never seen it done like this before and it was yummy.
I would've given this review a 4.5 and the reason why I gave this was because it took a while to get the rest of our meals, not sure how long we waited as least a good 20 minutes but we were getting antsy (and I wouldn't mind the wait but with 2 small kids you really need to be on the ball when it comes with meals).
Finally our meals came out, all was good however the combination of fried rice cakes/Korean bolognese didn't really fit well for us. I mean I understand what they are trying with this dish, trying to make it fusion asian/italian but if i was at a restaurant i wouldn't order this separately.
Would I go here again? Yeah I wouldn't mind trying however as a tourist if I came here again, I would probably want to try somewhere new...
Read moreCame with party of 3 on a Tuesday night and it was still pretty busy! Reservations recommended. Easy to do online. It's a pretty big space!
Entrances off both Fish Lane and the main street.
We were dining gluten-free (celiac/coeliac). They have "gluten-friendly" menus which is super convenient, but BEWARE not all items are celiac-friendly.
Service was kind and pretty prompt. Not terribly knowledgeable but the answers to all of our questions was sought out and returned, which we appreciated. Table service and bills paid at the table too.
Cocktail jugs serve 3 glasses.
1 starter, 3 mains, and a (large) rice was very filling for 3 people! Mung bean pancake, Jack's Creek black angus flank, wok tossed provencale vegetables, coral coast barramundi, fried brown rice. All were very good! I did find the brown rice a little too salty for my tastes, however.
Though we didn't take advantage this time, I appreciated that there were gluten-friendly banquet menus too, and could be done in smaller portions for an individual (e.g. if the rest of the table wanted gluten food) and they were open to substitutions for the non-celiac-friendly items.
