Came with party of 3 on a Tuesday night and it was still pretty busy! Reservations recommended. Easy to do online. It's a pretty big space! Entrances off both Fish Lane and the main street. We were dining gluten-free (celiac/coeliac). They have "gluten-friendly" menus which is super convenient, but BEWARE not all items are celiac-friendly. Service was kind and pretty prompt. Not terribly knowledgeable but the answers to all of our questions was sought out and returned, which we appreciated. Table service and bills paid at the table too. Cocktail jugs serve 3 glasses. 1 starter, 3 mains, and a (large) rice was very filling for 3 people! Mung bean pancake, Jack's Creek black angus flank, wok tossed provencale vegetables, coral coast barramundi, fried brown rice. All were very good! I did find the brown rice a little too salty for my tastes, however. Though we didn't take advantage this time, I appreciated that there were gluten-friendly banquet menus too, and could be done in smaller portions for an individual (e.g. if the rest of the table wanted gluten food) and they were open to substitutions for the non-celiac-friendly items. Would dine here again!

First time dining here & highly recommend it! From the moment I booked it to the end of our meal, the whole experience was seamless! This was a quick lunch for 4, we had a ballet to be at by 1:30pm & they opened at 12 noon - there was an option during the booking process to check a pre-theatre box which I thought was very thoughtful as when we were seated, the lovely guy who served us informed us on which items on the menu would come out quickly so we could still enjoy the food & our time there which we very much appreciated. Great atmosphere, the staff were all so friendly & the guy who looked after us was also very attentive. The drinks & food all came out not long after we ordered & everything was delicious!!! The portions were generous making it worth every cent! The restaurant is about a 7 minute walk from the Cultural Centre bus stop making it easy to access via public transport. Being in the busy side of South Brisbane, street parking is difficult however there are some available if you’re lucky & there are a few carparks near by. Plenty of space for prams & mobility vehicles along with amenities. Will be back for sure!!

I was fairly excited to have lunch here reading previous reviews. I cake for lunch and the place was dead. Maybe 2 other tables but they had left before I even had my mains. I ordered the lunch banquet so that I could try a little bit of everything. Appies were great. Tasty and we'll seasoned. The mains took ages to makefor whatever reason (again, the restaurant was dead). so really there shouldn't have been a reason why it took the kitchen so long but I'll give them benefit of doubt that they were prepping for dinner time. The kitchen upstairs is very open so clients can look and directly see the chef's prepping the food. I sat Very close. I sat so close I could hear one of the chef's swearing at one of his co-workers. I was so shocked that firstly, that type of language was used and secondly that that type of behaviour is allowed in the work space. I felt so awful for the young man that was getting verbally bashed. As I was watching the chef who belittled his colleague, I saw him dip his finger into a sauce pan and taste it. Totally okay, you are doing what chef's do thinking hell wash his hands after..... Nope.... Didn't wash. Didn't even use a spoon. Just dipped that same licked up finger back in the pan and tasted it again . I understand that heat destroys germs but at the end of the day that is just point blank not allowed in a hospitality setting. I will not support companies that : A. Allow unprofessional and misconduct behaviour towards each other B. Contaminate food Because of this, I lost my appetite and did not enjoy the food at all. The food itself was eh. The main course was drenched in oil. Everything was smothered in oil. You got so full from just the oil that you actually weren't even able to eat the food. The pork in the sour stew was over cooked and rubbery.

Honestly, really wanted to like Chu The Phat, had high expectations for it because of its atmosphere and decor and overall rating. But was very very disappointed, we ordered the spicy noodles and the pork mince, spicy noodles was presented great, looked really good and yummy. But the taste said otherwise, it was bland even though the colour was vibrant, and just overall not appetising. Pork mince, was another level of confusing, had Korean rice cakes in there, but flavouring was not particularly Korean or Chinese (due to the pork mince), and once again flavour overall was bland and not appealing. We also ordered two cocktails and wow, the bartender 100% put the wrong measurements of the alcohol and syrups in there, because definitely for $11 there should not be THAT much alcohol in there, was not enjoyable due to such a strong kick of alcohol, even after the ice melted completely, the kick was exactly the same, showing how strong it was. Overall, would not recommend coming to Chu The Phat, thankfully the prices were alright or I would have given them a lower rating, quite sad as we had high expectations for it!!!!!

A decent wine list, the eventual pick was lovely, not a regret at $85 for the bottle. The menu is also requires some contemplation, a tricky assortment of classic flavours and more novel combinations. The starters of choice were excellent, unique components to the kimchi bacon and corn and coriander dumplings, as well as the mung bean pancake. Together they felt balanced and purposeful. The mains were a bit disappointing particularly when considering the price point. I thought the chicken stir fry was nondescript, like a 15minutes straight home from work concoction. The pork obviously far more time intensive and it was well executed, but I was wanting more from the condiment parings. Freshness of substance was a craving. Service was good and just what you’d expect. The ambience is fine, relaxing enough, but nothing remarkable or that I’d place extra value on. Over all enjoyable dining but it was carried by the wine and starters. In the end it felt too expensive for what it was.

We had a great meal at Chu The Phat. The food was outstandingly good! They certainly don't skimp on the portions and the meals are value for money! For entree we shared the poached chicken salad. It was light, fresh, full of delicious delicately poached chicken tossed with herbs, micro greens and ginger in a light Asian dressing. Mains were Coral Coast crispy skin Barramundi fillet in a sweet coconut curry broth, with herbs and steamed rice and the Apple Glazed Beef Ssam. The fish was cooked beautifully, crispy and swimming in a bowl of curry. The beef was served Korean style with lettuce and shiso leaves, daikon, kimchi, mayo, and fermented red pepper sauce to wrap it in. A side of green beans in XO sauce and steamed rice complemented the meal. Our food was perfectly presented, served hot with friendly, helpful service. The drinks were cold and whilst there is not an extensive cocktail list, they are good value and tasty. Highly recommended.
