Luxurious and architectonic, this adds much to the South bank. Within a short walk of dining strip, pubs, ferris wheel, night noodle markets, beach, park and river cruise jetties. Not far from railway station. At our conference the small mezzanine rooms with HDTV monitors and laptops were great for up to 20 panelists. The theatre was steeply raked and comfortable for a large audience (3 segments open to about a thousand seats with good lighting and sound) but we did not open up whole to see full capacity. The cafe is good, stylish and not overpriced for coffee and pastries. Complaints from our members (not in my experience since I was not in this part) were angry about the theatre-ettes having excess noise from the partitioned sides. Members heard three lectures at once. The other concern was over $22 lunches that were nice sandwiches with juice only -- skip this option. Many were left and people ate off campus. The conference leaders decided next time they would seek a university venue instead. On the bright side, this venue is so vast you may coincide with a builders convention and a tattoo convention, bizarre neighbors for an...
Read moreI’ve been to several events here and have never had an issue. Went to see John Mulaney tonight and the logistics were terrible. You had to enter from one side, walk all the way around the corner and down the hall to have your phone locked in a Yondr pouch then get scanned by security. Then walk back out and around towards the stairs to go up to the mezzanine (where the sign says our door is) where we just were that were for some reason closed off to be then told to walk back around where we just came from and loop back around. Didn’t make sense. So then we go the way we were told and ask another person where to go. She points back at the stairs and says to go there, we tell her they’re closed so she sends us to another person to ask. She then asks which show we’re there to see (even though there’s only one show playing) so I just show her my ticket and point at the door number. Someone then thankfully walks us in the direction we need to go and explains the needlessly complicated and inefficient route we needed to take.
Too many staff with not enough info, with a setup that makes it harder to just get...
Read moreAir conditioned (a necessity on a warm Brisbane day) with beautiful windows and natural light. Loved the different halls/sections that opened onto each other that make the space feel airy and welcoming compared to many convention centres. It created good spaces to take a break from the main events.
Recharge stations with powerpoints all along the side hall as well as drink stations to fill water bottles. Comfortable and ample seating and bins (and recycling) along this section. A few vending machines with snacks and charging devices.
Plenty of toilets in each section. Men’s toilets were very clean and didn’t smell, and had bag hooks on the backs of the doors. Would be good to have sanitary bins in each for people who need them.
Well signposted and easy access from train station. Parking underneath, with a pick up/taxi spot too.
I can see why this is one of the best convention halls around. Very well thought out and enjoyable venue. I was there for SupaNova expo and it was a great visit. Their staff were absolutely outstanding in crowd management, communication, and making sure everyone had a great...
