Stopped by Ghent on the way to Brugge recently, and happened to be there the day after a huge festival had ended. Things were still in a state of upheaval on the streets, so it was very nice to step into this peaceful restaurant for a bit of rest and a yummy meal. Ordered the lasagna because I saw a small square casserole dish on another patron's table on the way in that had been scraped clean. Delicious! One of the best lasagnas I have ever eaten - made with bechamel, not ricotta (as is commonly done in the US). So creamy and piping hot, with a lovely toasty crust of melted cheese on top that reminded me of the cheese on top of a good French onion soup. Wish I had remembered to stop and take a picture! Definitely recommend Porta Alta for some solid Italian food in this lovely...

Again the restaurant turned me away for 'not having a table for one All reserved' tho apparently 3 tables were vacant at the time i entered and they wouldn’t check to see when are they reserved for. This would not happen in Australia at least they will take a look and let you know if they can squeeze you in before the reservation. They don't even bother to see if other tables were finishing up when I asked if they are not available the whole night? Meaning I can maybe come back in an hr the guy replied I don’t know if they finish up you can eat here. Really...
