This store has some great products, but their selection is very confusing. I go there mostly for the plant-based products, which they seem to be attempting to specialize in. They have a nice frozen selection of vegan alternatives, but then on the flip side they have no vegan cheeses or ready made meals whatsoever. They have chicken strips and frozen dinners, but then no basic stuff like a vegan cheese pizza. The issue is that most of what they do sell is available at three other stores on the same street for a cheaper price, so when I go here I'm looking for products that I can't get anywhere else - a nice wheel of cashew brie cheese, a quick ready-made lunch, vegan ricotta, and so on, and they don't have any of that. I've suggested products numerous times since they specifically ask you, but that doesn't really work - they tell you they'll try to order it, but not a single product or type of product I've suggested has ever made it onto the shelf, even though places like IGA are able to get them.
Apart from that, they have some things like fried tofu, fresh ramen, and hard to find produce like cactus fruit, which I frequently buy there. Unfortunately, a lot of the products aren't well labelled, so it's hard to figure out what you're buying.
A big issue with Marche Eden is that they insist that you leave your bag at the entrance, which is an absolute no-go. They don't seem to see why I don't want to leave a backpack with electronics in it that would cost $1000 to replace just sitting there, and they treat you like garbage and refuse you entry when you explain why you'd prefer to keep it. One time they suggested I take all of the stuff out, including a laptop and everything, and carry it around the store with me. Easy peasy, right? So when I go there and they ask me to leave my bag, I just refuse to shop there and go to one of the other stores in the area instead, and try again next time. I'm not interested in having to reason with a bunch of employees for the privilege of being allowed to shop at their store. I just don't have...
Read moreThis is the most UNPLEASANT shopping experience I had in Montreal. I went to this grocery many times, every time before I get my stuffs scanned by cashier, she will ask me whether cash or card. But this time, the cashier didn't say anything and just scanned all, after I took out my cash, he points to a paper signed with no cash in French. Ok, then I just take my items to next cashier. Until now I didn't feel anything wrong. But, I heard that a white lady after me was kindly reminded by the guy before she started to scan in ENGLISH. So why he doesn't remind me? Why he use his finger points at the paper instead of talking to me? Because I am an Asian? So I kindly tell him he could tell me first no cash that I don't need to waste my time. But he did the pointing again without any words! So rude and totally discrimination. I can't believe I can be treated like this. I am a customer, and be treated with racism. So unbelievable that happened in this grocery store and this African guy mocked at me. I won't go this store again and I will tell all my friends and neighbors about this racist man. I went back to the shop second time to communicate with him, because I want to tell him firstly not every one understand what the sign meaning, and secondly why he can talk with the white lady well in English but only use his finger points for me. And I also mentioned it's better to sign a little sentence in English, but he refused to talk with me and ignore me, I can understand he speaks English not good so that I mentioned to add English sign, but he became rude and arrogant. I said okay okay I want to talk to manager, he said manager is not here. So now you reply that he is so respected and a manager, how ridiculous. I can understand you defend for your staff and ignore what customer appeals, but most goods in your store are Korean food and he show his racism discrimination to Asian people, earn money from us and no respect to us, this is...
Read moreThere is a rude and possibly RACIST female cashier at this store(caucasian, tall, wearing square glasses) and the store manager won't do anything about it...
A friend of mine (we are both racially Asian) went shopping at Eden yesterday evening and had the following experience. Around 8:50 pm about their closing time during check out, he was using Apple Pay on his watch but had mistouched on the screen so had to reload once. It was then when the female cashier snapped at him and said the following things, "Is it because of your eye? Your eyes cannot see clearly and the apple watch is tiny." which came out of nowhere and was extremely rude.
We later addressed the issue to the manager, but at the beginning the manager even tried to dismiss by saying "I don't believe that happened" (why on earth would anyone make up such an experience just to spite on the store...), asking for proof (who would have known before this could happen and be prepared at any minute for a audio/video recording... mostly you would be caught unprepared and ofc we didn't record it) and was reluctant to do anything about it, "there is nothing I can do". Then when it was finally confirmed by the cashier herself that she did say those things, she only admitted that it was a misunderstanding because she was trying to start a "CASUAL conversation about the apple watch", and that it was not her intention to "comment on people's bodies" nor would she admitted her commenting such things was specifically because my friend is Asian.
Having shopped at Eden for the past two years, this is the very first time we had ever encountered this, the manager's first reaction also said a lot about their attitude towards their clients. This is EXTREMELY...
