Not bad for a first experience at Plato's Closet.
I brought in 2 bags of clothes (mostly women's tops, bottoms, and jewelry and some of my husband's menswear, all of which were in excellent condition. Some were brand new and sealed in packaging / had tags). Even though people advise not to visit on Saturdays because it gets really busy, I arrived at 10:15am on Saturday and was 3rd in line to sell, which was about a 30 min wait before they started looking at my clothes. I ended up selling a bag for $50.75 (about 16 pieces) which averages $3 per piece, which is super low because some things had their price tags on them like a necklace from RW&CO that was $49.99.
In terms of selling clothes, here are some observations: Plato's target demographic is ages 13-20. Most of the clothes they sell in store is actually from random brands but there was a lot from F21. I brought clothes from the F21 (mostly), Banana Republic, Zara, Hollister, RWCo, Uniqlo, underarmour, and keds shoes. They did not take any of the Banana clothes and actually told me that too much of my clothes were business casual which did not fit with their vibe (this I totally understand. Take your business clothes to Style Encore). They took all my clothes that were brand new with tags but offered the same price as the old clothes on these items. They don't let you watch them price your clothes / explain to them the condition - everything is based on the sales associate's judgement and mood that day. They quickly sift through your clothes and don't even open up some items (I saw them throw my Hollister aside without opening it to see the label. Perhaps they assumed it was unbranded). Then, they enter the clothes they want to accept into the system and the price is system-calculated. They say they only take clothes that are 1-1.5 years old. However, I found that pretty inconsistent after going through the racks in their store as some items had holes, and were poor quality and condition. I ended up selling the brand new with tag items and super old items in my closet, but not much of the in-between items. I couldn't find much of a trend in how they determined what to buy from me.
Tips: Launder, iron/steam, and fold your clothes so they are presentable. Put your clothes in a nice bag. Bring clothes that are in season. It seems like they are into cardigans at this time of year (November). Clothing from Aritizia seems to be one of the highest priced brands they sell in their store. They retail Aritzia sweaters for about $25 so that means you will be getting about 30-40% of that in your pocket. For other clothes, they sell them for about $15-20. I would recommend taking your Aritzia to Style Encore. SE buys your clothes for more money because they're priced higher afterwards (SE's target demographic is women, not teenagers). Visit the Plato's website and look for locations with Stars beside the name (like Oakville). These locations are known for better quality and customer service.
In terms of buying clothes, I could not find anything I liked at Plato's. They only had one tiny rack of Aritzia and a couple of items scattered in the shelves. Most of the Aritzia was too old for me to justify buying. I shop at Aritzia regularly and the styles sold at Plato's were super outdated (demonstrating that they make exceptions to their 1-1.5 year rule when it comes to coveted brands).
I'm pretty happy that I was able to sell more items that expected, but that's only because I got money out of things sitting in a garbage bag at home that I was going to donate anyway. If you're looking to sell things to turn a profit, maybe...

Poorly laid out store that had probably 2 change rooms available on a busy Saturday afternoon. There were other change rooms available but for some reason customers were not allowed to use. No clear indication where to stand and wait and all of us waiting were blocking an entire rack. Waited in line to try on clothing for well over 20 mins. Person behind me asked an employee what the return policy as she would just buy and try on at home rather than wait in a very short but long wait time line up.
The clip hangers for the jeans are not a good idea as so many pairs would slip out of the clips when you slide the hanger The aisles are sooo tiny and narrow. Not a wide selection of athletic wear.
Group of 3-4 people socializing and not actually buying anything just standing in the most open part of the store making it difficult to walk around.
Not enough carts, had to walk around and wait for a customer to leave. Employees were not very friendly or approachable. It felt like you were bothering them by just being inside the building... What a strange vibe, it was weird.
There was an insane amount of blue Rubbermaid bins stacked against the wall and all over the store, I felt like was at a bargain basement store... It's so cluttered and possibly a hazard.
I shop at Plato's in a few cities often and always have a pretty good experience when it comes to a well put together store and customer service, but I won't be returning...
