I recently visited this store and purchased a bra top and leggings. A few hours after i left the store I noticed the price on the tag of the clothes did not match the price on the receipt so I brought it back to the store to see why this was. The cashier told me that the store has raised their prices to build a more 'sustainable' business model. She offered no explanation as to why the price advertised on the cloths in the store weren't updated, nor was i told this when i was checking out. This is a very dishonest business practice to not be putting new stickers the clothes with the updated prices or to notify people during checkout.
Also, their cash register set up does not allow for customers to see the price they are being charged. The credit/debit machines are a black box and doesn't allow customers to see the total amount they are being charged with. Even dollarama lets customers see what they are being ringed in for and how much their cards are being charged.
Please beware of this and check your receipts and how much you are being charged!! Super shady company.
The cashier said they will 'honour' the lower price (only because they were caught) and acted as if they were doing me such a great favour. When in reality Canada is governed by federal laws that cover pricing discrepancies under the Competition Act. Alo charging consumers more than the ticketed price was not an 'honest' mistake, or someone forgot to put an updated sticker on the item. What the Alo Yoga store is doing is intentional and deliberate to trick customers into thinking the clothes are cheaper and not being honest about it.
Another issue I have with them is that I made my original purchase using half on a gift card and half on my visa. When I was getting the partial refund back for the price discrepancy the cashier told me I could only have the difference back on a gift card. That is unacceptable when the amount of the refund was less than what I paid on my visa so there should be no reason why the 'system' would not allow for that. And I did not want a gift card for a small amount because why would i shop with this company? Be careful if you purchase with gift cards combined with other payments because if you want to make a return they will only give it on a gift card.
Like many other reviewers wrote, this store has terrible customer service. I told them it was not about the money, it was the principle that they are falsely advertising lower prices and charging more at checkout with no notification. She made comments that were inappropriate and belittling when the store was in the wrong.
If I did not have the gift card I would have just returned everything and wouldn't be making any purchases from them at all. I should feel happy and excited when spending almost 250$ on a bra and leggings. However, after this experience I am now embarrassed to be wearing Alo. I feel terrible in these clothes by supporting a dishonest business, with rude staff who are belittling, and scamming people our of their money.
My advice is to shop with lululemo. There online store and canadian stores offer free returns, interchangeable e-gifts cards can be used online or in store, prices are the same online and in-person, they have wonderful customer service and stand behind their products years later offering free replacements for quality issues. Alo Yoga as a business offers none of this and charges more! The one thing they could do at the very least is offer basic human decency and good customer service to their customers.
I wrote to Alo to try and resolve this and bring up these issues and of course they never responded back so hopefully this review and a few videos on social media will help warn people to stay away from this brand, its a scam. Dont be influenced by models wearing...
Read moreAlo genuinely disappointed me so much. I visited toronto in november and did some christmas shopping with my mom. I bought a pair of leggings and received them a month later for christmas from my mom. Once i tried them on the quality was just not there at all. For the price of these leggings i thought theyd be amazing but i immediately took them off and knew i would never reach for them again. I then decided to call the store to see if there was anyway i could return them. I live in new york so its about a 2 hour drive if theres no traffic at all. The woman on the phone basically told me im SOL and the 30 days is up. I panicked bc these were $140 leggings. I called the Alo customer service line and they said i had to go through the store because they only deal with Alo within the states. A few days later i called the store again to talk to a manager. The first girl that answered was so kind and said the return period was extended and had just ended days prior. If the first girl i called would have told me that, I would have been able to return them with no problem. The second girl explained my situation to the manager Cherry who on the phone was very kind and willing to help. I told her the soonest i could make the trip was the coming saturday, and she said she would be able to process it as store credit. I was so relieved and on saturday my mom and i drove SIX HOURS to get there, as the traffic was insane. We arrived at the store and the girl at the counter said she would get Cherry. After a few minutes Cherry moseyed to the counter seemingly trying to ignore us by folding clothes on the counter and avoiding eye contact. Finally she greeted us and said she â Vaguelyâ remembered me calling. Before even fully taking the pants out of the bag she said âi said i would only return these if they were in good condition which they are not so i cant process this return unfortunatelyâ as she gave me some dumbass smile. I definitely got kind of upset because i had told her on the phone the long trip i had to make to do this. She said there was âwear and tearâ which isnât possible since u put them on for no more than a minute to look in the mirror and decide they were hideous, and she also couldnt return them bc some fuzz from my rug had gotten on them. I said âif i go buy a lint roller will you return them they i drove 6 hours to do thisâ. Finally after i became increasingly frustrated she agreed to do the exchange. I will officially never shop at this store again. They are so obsessed with themselves its crazy and the way Cherry acted towards me that day was disgusting. I hope you find better staff bc reading through these reviews this...
Read moreVery disappointing experience with their in store customer service and team. Went to visit the store on numerous occasions. Initially with the opening, it was refreshing to see a well known American retailer yoga and a new active wear brand enter the Canadian market. (Not a fan of the big Canadian one).
I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time I visited as they were new and probably still adjusting. 2nd time I came to visit an issue arose due to a discrepancy in the product. The staff was rude.. I am a very understanding person and thats coming from me who has worked in the health space retail for 15+ years. I spoke with someone in management named Sam to resolve the issue, but it took longer than necessary, she was very unresponsive through email.
A few months later, I went and my experience was a little straight forward despite not being the most knowledgable, again I'll chalk it up to only being 2 months old. Was talking to an employee and was told a new location was set to be open in Yorkdale. I was then advised by a team member to communicate with Cherry to do a collaborative launch or community event because they are in charge with working with those in the community.
Again, I thought it was a great opportunity, to support an incoming brand into Canada. After management agreed for the Yorkdale event, I sent 4 different emails following up to coordinate the event. Not a single response from any of the team members... Needless to say it didn't happen. As someone who works regularly with other businesses and builds communities in the active fitness space in Toronto. It was quite disappointing. They really missed out on the opportunity to enter the Canadian market with a stronger welcoming brand presence by collaborating with established businesses to build authority. It's such a shame that this is the perception that is going to depict the Alo brand to begin with in Canada/Toronto.
Based on the reviews between the stores I guess I'm not the only one that had did not have pleasant experiences with the brand. I've spoke with others in the health/fitness space in the city when the brand is brought up, they also similar feelings with their experience in store. Not sure how seniors and upper management let this fly, completely unacceptable with the customer support and unresponsiveness to local businesses who want to work on to grow/collaborate in the space.
I truly wanted to support the brand and retailer however their management, customer service, lack of communication and community efforts are all reasons why I will no longer support or...
