LIFE-Changing Chocolates*! I tried ALL 30 of their unconventional bon bons & can vouch for the quality, taste, and craftsmanship for each & every flavor. Truly well done interpretations! But if you have a daily calorie limit (like me supposedly LOL) or can’t fit all 30 in your suitcase back home (actually their largest box is 24) or just really unfortunately have to pick and choose: My select favorites were = 1) PPK (Pei Pa Goa - a nostalgic homage to many childhood memories where I would sneak in as many servings of this tasty yet comforting honey loquat minty tasting herbal syrup whenever I was feeling err under the weather). Honestly I was blown away. I’ve seen PPK lozenges, PPK syrup on ice cream, but not PPK in chocolate form until now. Plus the balance is refined yet flavor is true to its roots. If you grew up with PPK, I’d recommend trying this & bringing at least a box home for your loved ones. 2. Black Garlic Miso. Another home run. Didn’t think this could work in chocolate form but the savory flavors and sweetness is well balanced with a caramel intermediary. Would get again. 3. Ume Black Sesame. Loved black sesame flavors growing up & ume’s bright acidity surprising pairs well with it. Fun fusion of traditional Chinese & Japanese flavors. 4. Tom Yum Lemongrass. Dude the slightly savory lemongrass here SINGS! Also this bon bon wasn’t spicy for me (although the mala, passionfruit cayenne, and verbena sansho ones had a bit of a kick in order of priority) 5+. Sorry y’all! Duty calls so I’ll have to post what’s an ā€œabbreviatedā€ review for now and make do w/ an attached picture of my list of remaining favs. Green stars = top tier favs. Black stars= runner up favs. Bars: Also, their Nori Tempura White Chocolate Bar is BOMB. Do yourself a favor and try one. The kinako milk chocolate bar is lovely too - initially chocolate forward with a nice touch of delicate mellow nutty more after taste. They also have a ruby chocolate bar and an award-winning MI GORENG/Indonesian fried noodle dark chocolate bar that I bought but have not tasted yet. Will update on verdict when I have a chance. Caramels: these are pretty fire too! Was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of their black berry version. It’s a great, juicy, fruit-forward version with a nice tang. Their caramel’s mouthfeel reminds me of pate de fruit a bit because they are so generous with the fruity goodness in here. That does add to the density of their caramel’s structure but it’s not super chewy like American ones. I bought their raspberry and regular version but haven’t had time to try them yet 🤣 (Random fun fact: Maybe it’s kismet, but I also used to work at a company called Onyx! And we’re having a company anniversary later this year.🫰) *=based on chocolates I’ve tried from the EU, Americas, and Asia so far; so at this point anything I label as life-changing is the highest praise I can give 😁

Went here to grab some chocolate for my special someone (pastry chef). We absolutely loved their bonbons and chocolate bars. The vibrant shine of the bonbons with popping colors almost too good to eat, the deep asian inspired and well thought out taste of each bonbon that brings back memories from youth, all of which just absolutely makes me go googoogaga for their chocolate. Everything was absolutely stunning I cannot praise them enough. The price is well in line with what they bring to the table. Get them for Valentine's, birthday's, special occasions, you will not regret a single bite. Their location might be a bit out of the way, it is however worth it in every sense of the word, make sure to check their store times as it is not the usual operating hours.

In this box the flavours were: cocnut pandan, kalamansi kacap manis (MY PERSONAL FAVE), white rabbit, miso caramel black garlic (MOST INTERESTING), pei pa koa (if you know, you know), sudacchi cheesecake, lychee, and Vietnamese coffee. For someone who grew up in asia, I know all of these flavours very well, and I was amazed by how Onyx’s bon bons were able to capture these flavours and transform them into chocolate form. It was a little taste of home with every bite. The quality was superb, very well made! Aside from that, they look like a work of art, would make for a perfect gift 🩷

I keep coming back to Onyx Chocolates not only for the stunning artisan bonbons, but for the feeling they spark—joy. Whether I’m treating myself to a shot of goodness or sharing sweets with others who deserve something special, Onyx always delivers something artfully delicious. They also offer other goodies, like ice cream and chocolate bars (on my list to try), as well as creative gift cards to match.

Quality is Onyx’s middle name. Everything, inside and out—from the delicious works-of-art bonbons to the modern-designed packaging—is crafted with care and attention to detail. Even the website reflects this—well-designed and intuitive, it made sending a box of bonbons feel as personal and polished as choosing them in the store.

I also love that they offer a bring-your-box-back program—a sustainable, community-minded initiative where you can return your empty box for reuse and receive a discount. Also, their vegan-friendly options make it easy to address dietary needs without sacrificing beauty or taste.

The thoughtfulness behind every bonbon is mirrored in the lovely humans who create them—Gabe and Hardy. If you’re looking for something to brighten your day or a unique gift for someone special, I highly recommend Onyx Chocolates. Support local, spread a little (or a lot of) joy, and check out these bonbons...

All I can say is that the chocolate here is absolutely mind blowing. As someone who eats ALOT of chocolate (soma, David Chow, CXBO, Omnomnom, Soul, etc.), the chocolate at Onyx is completely incomparable, and not just for the uniqueness of the flavors, but for the quality of the ingredients and the unique play on textures that bring variability to each flavor. It takes real skill to take simple ingredients like durian fruit or the idea of recreating a savory soup (the tom yum caramel) in the form of a chocolate truffle whilst making the flavors work, yet it does, and is personally one of my favorite chocolates! Each and every flavor is exactly as described, yet each truffle not only features unique flavors, but unique textural components as well, such as the Thai Tea featuring a layer of condensed milk, or the baileys caramel featuring an semi-soft almost fudgy caramel that's been reduced to the point of developing a very rich, complex flavor. Onyx is one of the few chocolate places I can go to that no matter what...
