Supreme Taste, located near Broadview and Gerrard, is a comfortable and welcoming local spot in the Broadview Chinatown to grab an affordable bite to eat. The location used to also hold a Chinese restaurant that served similar foods of BBQ pork and lunch combo meals however, the owners and staff at Supreme Taste really make this place unique and such an easy place to be at. All staff are pleasant, friendly, and polite.

Supreme Taste is a cozy restaurant with tables for sit in meals. The place may be small but the menu is extensive, the service is friendly, and the place is clean! It does get quite busy so expect that you might have to wait a bit to grab a table during peak hours.

What to eat? Well, the options are endless with classic Cantonese dishes (e.g. fried noodles, bbq + rice combos, dim sum, fried rice) and I certainly haven't tried everything yet. This review focuses on their bbq + rice combos as well as the wrapped sticky rice.

If you want an affordable meal, please do consider their bbq rice combos (see menu). The portions are generous and I love that it comes with a side of vegetables (broccoli). The bbq pork was juicy and tender (not too sweet) and the roast pork had a nice crispy skin (not too salty). The flavours are milder and don't seem as salty as some other restaurants. I typically can only eat half and end up saving the rest for the next day's lunch!

Another great option to consider: their selection of wrapped sticky rice. Choose from scallop sticky rice, peanut sticky rice, and green bean sticky rice. My preference is the green bean sticky rice (see image). The wrapped sticky rice is so savory and flavorful with a hint of what I think is 5 spice powder (it's subtle but elevates the experience). You'll see the fillings are very generous with an equal ratio of filling to rice (pork, egg yolk, green beans, Chinese sausage). It's an affordable and filling meal. Buy a bunch home and keep them in your fridge or freezer. You can steam them or microwave them for an easy and satisfying meal.

I can't end this review without taking a moment to compliment the current staff team at Supreme Taste. Perhaps what I appreciate most about this restaurant is just how pleasant everyone is. Not gonna lie - the restaurant is busy and it can easily be overwhelming but the staff are just pleasant all the time. I've seen them greet every customer with respect and sincerity. It's obvious that they have regular customers with names exchanged and plenty of "see you tomorrow".

It's obvious why they have so many regular customers. If you happen to be in the area, be sure to check out...

Finally, a great Chinese restaurant close to downtown Toronto! Although they haven’t been open for long, you could tell that they’re off a great start, everywhere from food, to customer service from both staff and the owner. The owner made some great recommendations and the food rivals some of the best Chinese food from Markham and Richmond Hill. We ordered fish and beef congee, deep fried dough, and stir fried beef noodles, and we particularly loved the congee and the noodles. For those who know, stir fried beef noodles is one of the most deceivingly simple but most challenging dishes to make in Cantonese cuisine, because it does put the chef’s skills to test. It has some of the most simple and accessible ingredients, but requires a lot of skills to execute it well. A good stir fried beef noodles dish needs to have good wok-hay, even distribution of soy sauce amongst all the noodle pieces, tender beef, flavourful, but not oily and just satisfying and delicious. And they did just that! Just when we were wowed by their congee and beef noodles, the owner even offered us some BBQ pork to try, which was unexpected but a very nice gesture, and we really liked the flavour and the texture of the BBQ pork, too! We loved the place so much that we even went back to order takeout from them the very same day. Highly recommend!

Updated review: we went back for lunch and we’re blown away, again! Their roasted pork was juicy on the inside and the skin was crispy and has a nice crunch. The pork they use is good quality pork - you can tell once you have the first bite. Just delicious! This place truly rivals some of the best Chinese BBQ places in GTA.

We also tried their beef brisket and wonton soup. The brisket was tender and the soup was delicious.

Again,...

Go support this new spot on Gerrard. I drove by and it was crazy packed. Parked. And looked in the window. The owner Ed (the owner - he speaks perfect English!!!!), was waving me and my friend to come in. We were gonna just get take out. But wanted to experience the sit down dining. Service was excellent. Got the 2 meat combo: duck & free range yellow chicken and honey garlic chicken wings. Comes with complimentary tea, green onion, duck sauce, Chili oil. And they offered me additional green onion sauce to go and didn't charge (I always have to fight to get extra at most restaurants). They do take cards as well as cash. I used to go to the mom and pop shop that was there previously but it was cash only and owners didn't speak English - but they were always so sweet to help you and point anything out. Good to see the neighborhood supporting this new establishment and supported the old shop too. They cater to the traditional community and the new millennials/Gen X/Baby boomers too. An older Asian Grandma was sitting at a table by herself and ordered everything traditional on the menu: bbq, dim sum, soup, etc etc! I was jealous! All staff speak English and Chinese which is a plus. Please continue to support Wok and Roast next door too. There’s enough love...
