I had an incredibly disappointing experience today at the Ever New location in Vaughan Mills. It was my family's first time shopping at this brand, and we were hoping to find a dress for my mother to wear to an upcoming wedding. Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable experience quickly turned uncomfortable.
Shortly after entering the store, we were persistently approached by a short associate with dark long hair, who constantly made unnecessary and intrusive comments to us. At one point, while we were looking at a dress, she remarked, "that’s for petites". We didn’t ask for her opinion or assistance, so this comment came out of nowhere and was unnecessary and off putting.
The situation worsened when, on three separate occasions, this same associate kept taking dresses straight from our hands while we were still looking at them in the mirror—each time placing them back on the rack. I had never had an experience like this. We were not being disruptive or mishandling any merchandise, yet her behavior made us feel uncomfortable and watched. The constant helicoptering created an impression that we were being racially profiled or unfairly targeted under the assumption that we might be shoplifting.
This level of micromanagement and lack of basic courtesy ruined what could have been a positive introduction to the brand. Ever New should seriously evaluate how their staff engages with customers, especially in diverse shopping centers like...
