Bar Patua — Local services in Cotai Landfill Zone

Bar Patua is the feature bar at the newly opened MGM Cotai. It is a beautifully decorated place with a nice list of drinks as well as some light bites that can be enjoyed. Opening hours 3pm to 12am daily.

We visited Bar Patua shortly after the MGM Cotai officially opened and believe this place has potential to become a great hotel bar. They are still settling in and learning the ropes here, similar to what we found at Aji, one of the feature restaurants at MGM Cotai. Service was a hit-miss and it seemed they were still teaching or at least learning how to mix some of the signature cocktails during our visit.

We tried their Gin & Port which was pretty good. The port is young, served with a large single ice-cube. Gin served separately so you can control the strength of your drink. We also tried the Louisville Julep, an interesting and sweet take of the classic Julep drink. We found the Bar Patua version too sweet for our liking. However, it is a very friendly drink that many will enjoy. Table snacks - chili crisps and sweet sesame walnuts are served with drinks.

Decor wise, Bar Patua is a smashing hit. The seating area is a mix of early period Chinese, Macanese and European(ish) furniture, creating a colonial period feel that is comfortable and atmospheric. We'd return for the atmosphere alone, regardless of the quality of their drinks.

Note: Bar Patua is presently offering 2 for 1 drinks from 6-9pm. This could be temporary but the offer is printed on the drink list menu so perhaps a permanent offer. Makes the drinks very reasonably priced compared to other high end hotel bars...

We found this bar completely by chance during our trip to Macau as part of our Hong Kong holiday. My husband and I only had about an hour to enjoy a cocktail, and since it was an unfamiliar environment, we were a bit hesitant at first. However, the bartender’s warm hospitality and excellent presentation quickly made us feel at home. We had n exclusive evening, and when it was time to leave, they even escorted us to the taxi. Patua is the old local language of Macau spoken among Macanese community, unfortunately this language is no longer in existence.
