I bought my tickets online. They were slightly more than if I had gotten them on site,but I only had to stand in the line for loading the funicular about 20 minutes instead of being in 2 lines. Once we arrived at the top, we made the walk up to the church area where most people take pictures with the west side of Bogota spread below them. There are some nice restaurants below the church, one with a dress code. Above the church there are souvenir shops and little stalls selling food like hot dogs and empanadas. The plantings are lovely and there are many birds in the vegetation. For the religious there are scenes from the passion of Jesus. Because the elevation is over 10000 feet (3300 meters) one may feel short of breath if from the lowlands like me. It is cool but the sun is strong, so a hat is important. Finally, there are no sidewalks or safe walking areas after the university, so if you are coming from La Candeleria or the Centro, you should take a bus, taxi or Uber rather...
Read moreA great and seamless way to reach the top of the hill and knowing how it operates now would never consider the walk! On a Saturday morning at 9am there was a 20-minute queue to purchase tickets. Both card and cash is accepted, and you’re also able to purchase a one-way ticket for a slight discount if you’re thinking of walking down.
The staff make you queue up the steps in the station, with each step filling a section of the cabin. This means if you particularly want to be at the front, back etc, you can position or wait accordingly to get what you want. The ride itself takes less than five minutes but has great views on the way and is as comfortable as can be.
It’d certainly be my preferred option over the cable car route and should be a must-do for anyone’s first visit...
