WAMU RESTAURANT – EAST SIDE MALL
(if I could give zero, I would)
We had the absolute worst experience at WAMU Restaurant in East Side Mall. We ordered a portion of wings, and to our horror, when we bit into them, they were completely raw inside.
We opened three wings (out of nine) to check if it was just one bad piece, but every single one was raw. So we calmly went back to speak to the owner, expecting at least an apology or replacement. Instead, he arrogantly told us he “doesn’t want to hear complaints” and that “this is our concept.”
Excuse me? Serving raw chicken as a concept? That’s not creativity - that’s a health hazard. We even mentioned that it’s illegal and dangerous to serve undercooked poultry, but he insisted that “nothing happens from eating it.”
When we said we just wanted properly cooked wings, he took the untouched ones from our plate (that we had already touched!) and simply threw them back into the fryer in the same old oil with no concern for hygiene or cross-contamination. Absolutely disgusting.
This place clearly has no understanding of food safety, customer service, or basic hygiene. The owner’s attitude alone should be enough to make anyone avoid this restaurant. I can only hope the mall management and food authorities take immediate action before someone ends up...

The range of clothing stores is impressive; popular brands like Jack & Jones, Bershka, and many others make it a go-to for fashion lovers. Whether you’re looking for casual wear, trendy outfits, or something more upscale, there’s a shop here for every style and budget. One of the highlights is the massive REWE supermarket, perfect for picking up groceries, snacks, and essentials. It’s a great convenience if you're looking to do some quick shopping without having to leave the mall. There’s also a large cosmetics store that carries a wide range of brands and products, from skincare to makeup, making it easy to find whatever beauty products you’re looking for. The food court is another major attraction. It’s spacious, and the variety of food options is fantastic—you can find everything from Asian cuisine to pizza, burgers, and healthier choices. It’s perfect for taking a break and recharging after shopping. To top it all off, the mall has a huge gym on the top floor. It’s well-equipped and a convenient option if you want to get a workout in after a day of shopping. Overall, East Side Mall offers a well-rounded shopping experience with something...
Read moreA sad existence. As a resident of the immediate neighborhood, I am very dissatisfied with most of the stores I've shopped at. They always struggle to hire personnel, the shelves are usually empty, and the queuing times can be large. And of course with Mercedes Platz nearby, nobody there cares for their daily customer as much of the revenue is coming from people who either won't visit again or will visit to pick up a beer or so.
Malls in general destroy any neighborhood feeling you may get, the whole area would have been much better off without it and in its place have regular stores owned by regular people instead of multinational corporations.
Unfortunately, Germany is living its own distorted and dystopic American dream, obvious by the newly erect hideous skyscraper next to the mall, this situation is prevalent in many places aside from the east side mall all over Berlin and potentially Germany.
Finally, security is a big issue, particularly under the Warschauer Brücke and much more recently perpetrators broke in with a vehicle to rob the jewelry store in the mall.
