I found Serra Roma while doing research online where to purchase authentic ancient Roman coins. I was so delighted to have the opportunity to visit Mr. Alessandro Serra’s delightful store! He has an amazing collection of high quality ancient Roman and Greek coins fashioned into various jewelries (pendants, necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc) and he won’t rush you when you are looking around at all his wonderful treasures. I went in specifically to look for coins with the Goddess Roma or God Apollo and he promptly showed me his collection. All the while I’m looking at the pieces, he told me about the history of the coins, how old they were, who minted them, what characters were minted in the front/back of the coin. His English was fantastic (he studied college in the US during his youth). Each pieces will come with a little card giving you additional details of the coin. I ended up purchasing a Caius Vibius Pansa Denarius pendant (50 BC) with the most gorgeous profile of Apollo in the front and Minerva in the back set in Sterling Silver. His shop can help you get a Global Blue form which will give you back ~15% in tax rebate at the airport. If you download Global Blue on your phone ahead of time, you’ll see your form auto uploaded into the system immediately!

I feel safe when buying ancient coins from Alessandro because of how much he knows his coins and their history. There are so many counterfeits out there, I didn’t want to risk buying a fake coin for a few euros less. Plus it is so meaningful being able to support a family owned business from an owner who is so passionate about Roman history and their coins.

His store is close to the Spanish Steps in one of the smaller streets (Via Margutta) aside from the main Via del Babuino shopping street. Use google map and you’ll find his store easily. His pieces are definitely one of the most unique souvenirs you can get in Rome. How often can you truly take a piece of Ancient Rome back home...

Sal and Ornella are wonderful. I met Sal in person and purchased two lovely items from his shop - a bracelet and an antique Roman coin pendant. In person, Sal was engaging, patient, informative, just lovely. It was such a nice experience.

Unfortunately, the pendant was lost upon our return home, much to the utter dismay of the wearer. As a surprise to this person, I reached out to Sal one YEAR later to ask about purchasing a new pendant and explained who I was. Much to my incredibly surprise and delight, they had a record of the exact pendant we had purchased! They again were patient and kind, offering me advice via email, whatsapp, and called to chat as well. It was a big purchase to make twice, but once I received the pendant in the mail after making it, I knew it was the best decision, and it will be such an incredibly meaningful gift.

Serra is a Roman shop with unique and special treasures. They also provide most excellent customer service and care. A special piece of jewelry, that contains an ancient coin as the center piece, had the setting loosen and the coin came free. I purchased this item during the summer of 2020 and I brought the jewelry back to the store last week and they immediately set about repairing the piece for me. I was only in Rome for one day and Serra made sure that my jewelry was repaired and ready for me to pick up before 6 PM that evening! Each piece of jewelry and art in Serra, is unique and beautiful. The historical knowledge that is offered and shared about each piece is also a special touch.
