the slant of the Trinità dei Monti that rises from the Piazza di Spagna, is one of the most grandiose urban scenographies of the baroque period, built for Innocent XIII by Francesco De Sactis in 1723.26, giving a definite settlement to the strong level between the Piazza and the Church . The imposing architectural setting, which replaced the overhanging tree paths for the Pinciano hill, is divided into three parts by a succession of ramps that are divided into branches or joined into stairs according to a sinuous, monotonous course, at the foot of the staircase, which in spring it is adorned with azaleas, cippi with the French lilies (Louis XV) alternate with the eagles of Inicenzo XIII. On these bellisisme stairs it is forbidden to sit and eat to preserve these monumental stairs. le versant de la Trinità dei Monti qui se dresse sur la Piazza di Spagna, est l’une des plus grandioses scénographies urbaines de la période baroque, construite pour Innocent XIII par Francesco De Sactis en 1723.26, donnant un règlement définitif au niveau élevé entre la Piazza et l’église. . Perched atop the Spanish Steps, the Trinità dei Monti stands as a majestic beacon overlooking the heart of Rome. My visit to this historic church was a serene and awe-inspiring experience, blending tranquility with architectural grandeur in a harmonious balance. Ascending the Spanish Steps, the sight of Trinità dei Monti at the summit is a visual feast. The church’s impressive facade, characterized by the twin bell towers and the central obelisk, adds a touch of timeless elegance to the Roman skyline. The panoramic views from the church’s terrace offer a breathtaking glimpse of the city, providing a serene escape from the bustling streets below. Stepping into the church, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of quiet contemplation. The interior, adorned with frescoes and ornate decorations, is a testament to the artistic and spiritual legacy of the Renaissance. The sense of history within the walls of Trinità dei Monti is palpable, creating a space for introspection and reverence. One of the highlights of my visit was the sweeping view of Piazza di Spagna and the Roman rooftops from the church’s terrace. It served as a tranquil oasis, allowing me to appreciate the city’s beauty from a unique vantage point. The combination of architectural splendor and natural beauty made this spot a haven for both tourists seeking respite and locals seeking a moment of reflection. Trinità dei Monti is not merely a religious site; it is a cultural gem that encapsulates the spirit of Rome. The meticulous preservation of its art and architecture contributes to the immersive experience, allowing visitors to connect with the rich tapestry of Roman history. The church serves as a bridge between the past and the present, inviting all who enter to partake in a journey through time. In conclusion, Trinità dei Monti is a must-visit destination for those seeking a blend of tranquility, art, and panoramic beauty in the heart of Rome. Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a history buff, or simply in search of a peaceful retreat, this iconic church offers a unique and enriching experience that lingers in the memory long after you descend the Spanish Steps.

Trinità dei Monti is probably one of Rome's highest churches and it is perched above the Spanish Steps and is, maybe ironically, a French church. At the summit of the now-famous staircase that was actually financed by French authorities, it bears the name "Spanish Steps" because of the embassy of that country that occupied the lower area and gave the piazza its name. The church and grand beloved staircase is owed to France, though. The name is officially Santissima Trinita di Monte Pincio (most holy trinity of Mt. Pincio, referring to the hill on which it sits.) There was once a vineyard here, that had been donated to an order of friars from French King Charles VIII. The adjoining convent remains. Built between 1502-and 1519, it was given Gothic elements to celebrate the great French Gothic cathedrals, especially notable in the pointed arch and the cross-vault ceilings. The twin bell towers give the church symmetry, one with a clock and the other a meridian. The design is attributed to Giacomo della Porta. In front is a tall obelisk, one of the last erected in Rome, from the Imperial age made to imitate Egyptian style. It was placed here by Pope Pius VI. The church is open daily and is in use, though Mass is said in French. Trinita' dei Monti is one of five French catholic churches in Rome, and is part of the Fraternity of Jerusalem.
