I was so charmed by the window of this place... and then I walked inside. My family and I admired all the intricate pieces on the walls and shelves, then I looked behind the counter and realized one of the artists herself was working on a piece as we shopped. She was so warm and kind - turns out this was her and her mother's shop, which has been in operation (in various locations around Venice) since the 1980s. It was so fun looking around, talking to her about her work, her family, and the history of the store, and we came home with the most delightful keepsakes from our trip. This is one of those places that makes you realize Venice is still a very magical city, despite the crowds. Read moreAbsolutely perfect miniature bookshelf from Valentina at Armonie!! I'm an avid reader, but due to storage limitations I always buy kindle books and I mourn my lack of a home bookcase filled with paperbacks that I can look at and nerd over while I read. So I was delighted when, while on holiday in Venice, I stumble across Armonie and find out that Valentina hand makes gorgeous miniature bookcase frames, and that she ships internationally!! I saved her number and contacted her for a custom order (which she offers at no extra charge!!) and she spent a couple of months making a bookshelf with personalised titles, colours and themes chosen by me!! So many beautiful & unique items in this lovely small shop, operated by Anna, an artist, and her daughter. My friend & I bought numerous items each: several gorgeous small watercolors, done by Anna; a mosaic carnevale mask, again, handmade by Anna; a beautiful Murano glass bowl which was so different than anything I saw in Murano - and more! Anna was so sweet - even added in a few small 'gifts' gratis - and by the time we left, we felt like family. Her artwork is beautiful and so much more unique than many of the fabulous & not-so-fabulous fakes one sees closer to San Marco, and her prices are so very reasonable. Cannot recommend Anna's shop...
