If you're in Venice and looking for the gelato experience, look no further than Gelateria Gallonetto. This tiny spot tucked away from the tourist chaos is an absolute gem — easily serving the best gelato I had in Italy.
We tried two different combos, and both were incredible. The first was pistachio and mascarpone — the pistachio was super nutty and smooth, and the mascarpone was creamy and just rich enough without being too heavy. Together, they were a dream.
The second gelato was a mix of lemon and chocolate nougat. I wasn’t sure if those flavours would work together, but they really did. The lemon was fresh and zesty, like biting into a real lemon (in the best way), and the chocolate nougat added this rich, slightly crunchy contrast that balanced it all out.
You can tell everything is made with real ingredients and a lot of care. No weird artificial flavours, just really good, honest gelato. Plus, the staff were lovely and generous with the servings.

Read moreThe owner tries to make it seen as a language misunderstanding. But clearly, the staff serving me did not like the fact that I wasn't from there. If you have time to reply to the reviews, please train your staff some basic manner.
I visited on the night of June 12 and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience with one of the female staff members. She silently hand gestured at me instead of speaking and maintained an unfriendly attitude from the moment I ordered to when I paid. She also kept muttering in Italian in front of me, which came across as rude and dismissive. It was not a language misunderstanding. It was her rude attitude. She works in the most touristy gelato shop in Venice. What was even more frustrating was seeing her serve the male customer behind me with a completely different, friendly attitude. The contrast was obvious and disappointing. As for the ice cream — it was ok. I expected better, especially from such a...

The constant queue is the only turn off, but they're really good. Not elite yet, but definitely worth paying a visit
Fior di latte esp, it has a full body and a sticky texture which was great, and proper. Given the sugar content of gelatos, they shouldn't have the ice cream texture that so many places have
Pistachio was delicious too, although not too different from the other best pistachio gelatos we have had before, despite their "emerald" marketing
Finally, the melone was pleasant, it's natural and so not very strong, can tell they didn't add anything funny. Less impactful than the rest, good for those seeking something light and refreshing
Second visit: Came again on the very next day Got the fior di latte again. Amazing again Mocha and dark chocolate were both good too
Queue is nonexistent in the morning when they just open. They also...
