The afternoon before I came here , I was just passing by through Venice looking for a place to eat. As I was reviewing the menu outside ,an old man sitting outside on one the the 3 tables outside the restaurant gave us a thumbs up and nodded to me indicating it was a good place to eat. I then checked via Google for its rating and saw that it was rated quite well. 4.5 at the time. I was then about to enter the restaurant but was asked to come back later as they were closing(3pm) and were reopening at 7pm that day. The following day I came back to have dinner. To my surprise the same old man was there sitting in the same place eating the same dish I saw him eating the afternoon before. Which I found rather odd but I figured he really liked the place. While I was enjoying the best Linguine carbonara I've ever had , I looked through the Google review photos as I had a feeling that old man may work or own the place. And confirmed that after not only finding a photo of him two months prior eating at the exact same spot outside but also saw him being served another dish as I was leaving the restaurant. It didn't look like he was eating it and rather marketing an example of what their dishes look like. Genius way of marketing the restaurant as that little nod and thumbs up inclined me to eat here. 😀 So if you see an old man with a mustache in a buttoned shirt sitting outside to the left of the restaurant facing the door, expect a little encouragement to eat here.
Both my wife and I had a pasta dish. I had carbonara and my wife the Genovese pesto linguine . They were both excellent. The Carbonara was creamy just as it should be. The pancetta was also good. Prices are decent. And the tavern like ambience made it a comfortable place to eat. So let this be an additional recommendation to not hesitate to give this place a try if...
Read moreAbsolutely phenomenal experience. It's tucked away very close to St. Mark's so I felt better about not accidentally going to a touristy place. It's incredibly cute inside and felt very romantic. We came here because we found on the Find Me GF app that they have more than just one kind of GF pasta - our experience in most places here so far (which we're grateful for, I just wanted my wife to have some more food experiences while we were here). In fact, they have GF pasta, homemade pizza, risotto, and more. The owner was super friendly and immediately told us everything she could have "no problem." All of the servers were friendly as well.
She got the GF pizza with prosciutto which was incredibly tasty (although not cut, so be prepared to use a fork and knife for awhile). I got the regular fettuccine with pesto and tomatoes, and it was absolutely delicious. Just enough sauce and the owner came out and grated fresh parmesan on our meals. We then asked for the GF dessert options (panna cotta, creme brulee, tiramisu) and ended up choosing what ended up being the creme brulee of my dreams. I would've licked the plate if nobody was looking. When we asked for the check, he came back with it as well as two small glasses of limoncello on the house. A really lovely gesture - and very good limoncello. All of this (along with a glass of prosecco and a bottle of Pellegrino) for 55.50 Euro.
You get a 10% discount if you use cash, so make sure you have enough Euros on you to take advantage of that. They were very gracious as we left, and I would absolutely return here if we had more time in Venice. I am so glad we came here. Excellent for Celiacs and regular gluten...
Read moreWe arrived without a prior reservation and were promptly seated, which was a positive start to our dining experience. One of our companions had dietary restrictions necessitating a gluten-free meal, and we relied on the "Find Me GF" app to discover this establishment. Upon seating, we inquired about the availability of gluten-free options, and the server initially assured us that all dishes could be prepared in a gluten-free manner.
As we enjoyed our well-crafted drinks, an Aperol Spritz and a Limon Daiquiri, it appeared promising. However, when our friend attempted to order the gluten-free ravioli, they were met with a surprisingly blunt response from the server, who stated that only a limited selection of pastas could be adapted to be gluten-free. This abrupt shift in information was somewhat disheartening, especially considering our prior conversation with the server.
Nonetheless, our meal continued, and I opted for the spaghetti mixed seafood, which I found quite pleasing. My wife selected the Paccheri with Ortolana and Burrata foam, a choice that also garnered positive feedback. The overall quality of the food met our expectations, and our friend, despite the initial setback, appreciated the gluten-free pasta, noting its commendable texture and flavor.
In summary, while our experience was marred by a disconnect in communication regarding gluten-free options, the quality of the dishes and the enjoyable drinks contributed to an overall pleasant dining experience. It is our hope that the establishment can improve its communication with patrons who have dietary restrictions to ensure a more seamless and enjoyable dining...
