Read moreThis was our second official dinner restaurant in the city of Venice -in Italy. We came across this restaurant by looking at The dynamic reviews that it had.
Atmosphere:
It was a very welcoming atmosphere with warm lights, strung across the top of the ceilings. The decor was of a rustic Italian theme with well designed brick walls. The waitstaff was never overwhelming-neither were they out in the alley coaxing in business, as in other cases in Venice.
Waitstaff:
Very professional right from the beginning. Helped us select great meals served our wine appropriately, but never overbearing. Medo was very personable and checked in with us a few times. He was also quick to describe the meals and was excited about serving us the tiramisu - as he proferes it to be the best in Italy! I have seen other reviews where it is noted that the weight staff took a long time to serve, but that was not the case tonight.
Food:
The evening started great with fresh delicious bread serves at table side. Next came ,as a four parts selection , an appetizer plate consisting of local cheeses, which my wife and I really enjoyed. Next came the entrées which included Carbonaro pasta , Fruto Del Maré, and Filet Steak with brown sauce. The carbonara pasta was creamy and contained crispy bits of bacon which added to the flavor. The seafood plate was also delicious with long and excellently spiced prawns. My wife enjoyed a delicious steak, which was very tender and made to order. The waiter was right about the tiramisu, which was just sweet enough, and the crème brûlée was adorned with a nice surface flame that the waiter put on it. Chilled lemon cello and a decaf cappuccino topped off the meals. The bill came to €150 and was well worth it for three.
The waiter escorted us out, held the door for us and was very thankful for our patronage. I would consider this one of the best Italian restaurants that...
Read moreCharming little restaurant boasting one of the best crab tagliolinis on the island. I suspect that this is seasonal and it switches between a lobster linguini and this dish depending on season. It’s definitely a highlight of the menu.
It’s honest and refined cooking in a small kitchen so dishes take some time to come out but the quality is always consistently good.
I suggest leaning towards the seasonal specials which at this time of the year includes a wonderful turbot with olives, cherry tomatoes, potatoes and fried capers for 2 at €35 per person that’s plated at the table.
Calamari is also one of the best in Italy. Lightly battered and just delightfully crisp and crunchy.
Carbonara was a bit plain and light, lacking the body and hearty mouthfeel you imagine when you order a carbonara, but still al dente, fragrant and well cooked.
Tiramisu was disappointing, overwhelmed by mascarpone and devoid of espresso or liquor or pastry to balance it.
Cheesecake was not the baked version and tasted very homemade. Although better than the tiramisu.
The atmosphere is quaint and homely, but service is not the most warm though acceptable. They tried to insist we pay cash when we flashed an AMEX for some reason, even suggesting we pay half of the bill by cash, but there was no need to and we insisted to pay by VISA. Don’t let them bully you into this.
All in all a good experience and place I would return to for good cooking in Venice where good meals can be...
