Had lunch here after visiting the bamboo park, on the way to the Monkey forest. Seems to be run by some elderly folks, so if you're Japanese isn't great you may face difficulties getting your notions across. We came in with a party of 9 and they were more than accommodating despite the quaint size of the restaurant. Couldn't have been more than 30 seats in there, so do expect a wait if it's mealtime.
Ceiling was probably around 210cm high, so do keep that in mind if you're coming with tall diners. Menu was simple, including multiple don bowls (oyakodon, tamago don, katsu don and tempura don) as well as udon and cold soba that can come as a set. They served us a cup of hot tea when we sat down, which was appreciated considering the cold outside.
Intimate atmosphere, simple lighting and conversations were relatively hush-hush compared to the street outside. Got the impression that the management would like to keep it that way. Food portion was slightly pricey, but such was the trend in the area anyway. Kept us filled till our next meal though, which is what we wanted anyway.
Do note that they are CASH ONLY, so if you're planning to visit here on a cashless trip, it's best to find an alternative. They also have a cover charge of 300 yen per pax if you don't order anything, but the cheapest drink there (a cup of water and iirc orange juice as well) is...
Read moreRacist shopkeepers treated us differently from the moment we stepped into the shop, its probably because we're chinese. Here are the differences. Caucasians were served immediately with the menu and complimentary water, while we were left waiting and wondering whether it was self service. 从我们进来开始,就感觉不受欢迎。三位店员傻傻看着我们。我妈自己去拿菜单。店员们马上阻止,然后才肯来点菜。后来,来了洋人,店员们马上热情的招待。原来是歧视华人的店。
When we went to get our own menu, she seemed defensive and from that moment on, all eyes were on us throughout the entire meal. It was like a prison style surveillance Used Google translate to tell her that we wanted the egg to be more cooked but was left with a soggy mess of uncooked egg yolk and chicken pieces. Couldn't she tell us that they ate incapable of cooking fully cooked eggs??? I even gave her a Japanese keyboard to type what she wanted to say but she just kept rambling on in japanese. Refused to elaborate further and kept repeating 'no no no' When I got up to get water, she immediately came to get the bill from us, as if she thought that we were going to leave without paying....erm... We were clearly...
Read moreNot too sure what’s up with all of the negative reviews. I was there for lunch today and got the katsudon set. It was perfectly delicious. However, I’m giving it 4 stars because I thought the portion was a bit too small. The staff were nice and friendly, we got English menus, and we were served water as soon as...
