I got diarrhea after eating their most expensive udon (2050Yen). Food 2 stars only for my husband’s beef don. I had raw fish/egg/beef for a few days and I didn’t get any diarrhea, but a fully cooked udon gave me one! Plus this restaurant is awful for waiting customers. 1. You need to wait right beside the front door. When they call your name, if you are not there, your name will be removed. No text or phone or waitlist check. 2. Although it’s busy area, other stores will have a bench in front so customers can have a little bit rest. They DON’T. 3. They really don’t care how long you wait. We decided to wait because it’s only 3 tables in front and we’ve seen many tables checked out. Those 3 tables all got seat after a while but not us. Later there are people checking out and we thought we can go in immediately. But other groups started to sign up the waitlist. The reception kept taking care of other groups and left us outside until more than half of the restaurant are cleaned up. Then we ended up STANDING over 40 MINUTES there and we got in together with groups waiting just 5 mins. Such arrangement is truly awful, if I knew I need to stand 40mins I wouldn’t even get on to the list. And it gave...
Read moreWe had just finished the Hozugawa River Boat Ride (highly recommend) but were hot and hungry! Popped into this restaurant mostly because there were tables open and were very happy to find this is a long standing udon noodle restaurant! Cold dipping udon and ice cold drinks were just what we needed and I thoroughly enjoyed my tempura side. Hubs got udon with dipping curry and veg, kiddos got plain dipping noodles and beef and rice bowl. All were delicious and we devoured it but still light enough to enable us to then tackle the Arashiyama bamboo forest. The waitresses were so attentive they even offered my 10 year older trainer chopsticks when they noticed she was having difficulty. Don't hesitate to pop in and support this local gem.
It's a hot summer day in June, and my back is drenched in sweat. Looking for a cool restaurant, I see Shin-Togetsu on the map. My wife is ready to sit down, as the hit bamboo forest sapped the energy from her feet.
We put our names on the wait list, there's 2 parties ahead of us. I'm handed a QR code and apparently we order before sitting. Kyoto free WiFi is spotty, so I ask if there's restaurant WiFi. I'm in luck.
I traverse the menu, and everything looks delightful. Settling on the dipping udon, a new experience for me, I press order.
As I'm seated, the lively atmosphere is very enjoyable and the service is quick. With my food in front of me, I see the freshly made udon, and curry dipping broth. All of it amazing.
Happily full, and cooled from the overhead sun. I will definitely recommend this...
