Hotel Sugicho — Local services in Kyoto

Hotel Sugicho is located north of Teramachi-dori, a relatively quiet part of Kyoto but still near the main sights of central Kyoto. The hotel is a walk away from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station which is not particularly useful. The more useful station would be Karasuma Oike or even Karasuma station, both of which are a walk away from the hotel where you could travel to Kyoto Station or Umeda in Osaka. While the subway trains are of limited use for exploring Kyoto, the bus network is just a walk away where you could travel to most parts of the city with a handy one-day city bus pass.||||The hotel is a modern ryokan style lodging with traditional Japanese rooms which is very spacious. It is a little old thus expect some wear and tear which also gives the hotel a kind of old 1990s atmosphere. "Going to Japan without staying at a Ryokan is something you don't want to miss". I took my sister's advice and It was really a nice and memorable experience for us. We planned to visit Japan at the beginning of April so we could see the Sakura Cherry Blossoms. All hotels and ryokans in Tokyo & Kyoto were full even thou we booked six months ahead. Sugicho is an older building, but very clean with excellent and friendly staffs. We chose the room with Futons and breakfasts. Their breakfasts were delicious, unique, and beautifully presented. The hotel locates near Nijo-jo castle, Kyoto Imperial Palace, and walking distance to Sakaimachioike Bus Stop & Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae...

The hotel is vonderful, modern, definitely recent, the pictures were matching perfectly. The room was big and we had great sleep, futon were very confortable (and I didn't expect that). Staff was professional and very kind. We didn't try the public bath, but lot of guests loved it. Plus drink and ice cream were there after the bath. A self vending machine is also present, with drinks and other small stuff. Location is also good but you'll need a bit walking to reach the restaurants and subway (10 minutes). Breakfast (sweet) was definitely poor, I would skip that and I cannot talk about...
