fudo — Restaurant in Kyoto

This place is amazing. The food is amazing and chef is pleasure to talk to if you can speak Japanese. What a wonderful find in Kyoto. I'd recommend this to both foreigners and locals.

Here is a wonderful marriage of Italian and Japanese food in perfect harmony.

I had the Eggplant, Pike, Octopus with Squid Ink and was blown away. Then there's the fact that if someone told me I would be eating duck with chocolate in Kyoto I would probably slap them silly. I would highly recommend the panacota for desert as well but my review is point and time and chef is known to change his menu. You may find something even better.

The atmosphere here is quiet, cozy, smartly lit, and very well kept.

I hope to come back here on my next visit to Kyoto. Kudos to the chef, Tetsuo, and his business partner Ayaka. They have a wonderful symbiotic relationship considering it's just the two of them serving a full house. I'd recommend coming early as they open late in the evening.

Favorite experience in Kyoto to date!

We didn’t have a reservation, but they were so kind and got us in about an hour later. In the meantime, they gave us a rec for Bar K around the corner (4/5 in drinks but 6/5 in minimalist setting that makes u feel like you found a secret speak easy 🙂)

When we came back, we got to see Tetsuo the chef do his magic Very cool to see a master making the meals of everyone in the restaurant

This is a special place that intersects what is obviously a fun work environment, great food, curated wine list and beautiful decor (they use the veggies they cook that night as an art piece first).

We stumbled in this restaurant a day before we had dinner there. We wanted Japanese food but saw that fudo only served Italian food (mix of Japanese vs Italian food) after decending the stairs. We decided to go elsewhere cause it looked full and the Italian style wasn't wat we looked for. When we where upstairs again one of the waitressess chased us down the street (in a good way :-) and asked if we wanted to go inside because we were welcome.
