Maison Hiro — Local services in Kyoto

I came here in the summer during my stay in Kyoto. I have very curly hair that is oftentimes hard for stylists to work with, even in the United States. Because of this, I looked up stylists in Kyoto that welcomed international customers and had experience with my hair type. Maison Hiro appeared on google, so I called and we had a quick conversation about what I wanted. Immediately, I noticed his english was amazing and I felt there wasn't a language barrier at all. I told him my concerns and he listened to me completely. I booked my appointment and I came to him with an idea of what I wanted my hair to look like in the end. Ultimately, I wanted looser, frizz-free curls that were more manageable. He listened to my request but also told me what he thought would be best. I wanted something like a perm, but he introduced a different treatment that would give me the results I wanted. I completely trusted him, and he got to work. Hiro is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to hair. He pays such close attention to detail, all while keeping the visit fun and talkative. He is an incredibly kind and friendly person. After 5 long hours, a couple treatments and a haircut later, he managed to give me EXACTLY what I wanted.

I waited a couple months to post a review in case the health of my hair ended up changing or anything like that, but my hair is still looking amazing and feels just as good as the first day it got done. This hair treatment has actually improved my confidence in myself and improved my quality of life, that's how good Hiro is. I will 100% visit again when I travel to Japan in the future.

Probably the best haircut I've had. I don't typically write reviews, but I wanted to express my gratitude for someone who took great care to listen to my needs, my story, and transform my head of hair into something that looks and feels healthy and radiant. I appreciate the quality work that Hiro added. I was able to ask and learn more about hair and his passion for hair. Hiro is someone who cares about the quality of life in his clients and enjoys bringing his skills and love for what he does to show others how they can look and feel good about themselves. Funny part is I came in with super long hair (atypical of many Japanese women) with multiple colors, and right away after getting my story down, Hiro was able to discern where my head could improve, focus and narrowed down the need, and he even taught me ways to add volume to my hair on my own for when I continue my journey for better hair care! If you're looking for some quality cut, come prepared with an idea of what you need (for me it was a possible haircut and fixing of coloring) and be willing to really converse with someone who knows the art of hair and styling. Fortunately, Hiro spoke excellent English, so that made the experience even better as we connected on different life events and experiences. Hiro-san takes a lot of pride in his work and in the satisfaction his clients get. He is very personable and it was a joy to interact with him. I like stylists who know what to do with my hair to make me look the best I possibly can. He is this type of stylist. If you don't have any idea about what kind of hairstyle would work for you, he is the one you should go to. This isn't to say he can't do what you want him to do - of course he can. But I've always believed that the best hairstylist is the one that knows what would work best for your face, your lifestyle, where you live. I looked up hairstylists in Yelp and found Hiro-san. I went to him because the feedback he received were all glowing reviews. I had to find out and I was desperate for a haircut. I was fortunate in that I got an appointment with him on my last evening in Kyoto, and I am unsurprisingly and unbelievably happy with my experience. It's been about a week now since my haircut. I've followed his suggestions on how to care for and style my hair now that I'm back in humid Singapore and my hair has been looking really good! I am so happy with it! He is worth...
