We cancelled our stay after a couple of nights because the place was just way too noisy for us to get any good sleep. We could also see the lights of the room next door through our wall and unfortunately they were on the whole night. Furthermore there was only one shower for all the guests which made getting out in the morning a slow process. But that's cool, its an old place and if we had booked just one night for the experience that would be fine, but we'd booked 5 nights and it was a bit much. ||||The thing that really annoyed me though was that the hotel cancelled the booking completely with booking.com so we couldn't leave any feedback for other travelers, as you can't review a cancelled booking. But nor did they refund us, as would usually be the case with a completely cancelled booking. We told them we were happy to foot the price of moving somewhere new and our bill there, but I would've liked the chance to leave a review so others didn't make the same mistake of a long booking like us. Felt a bit slimy to go about it that way. People deserve to book what will suit them based on honest information. The place wasn't awful, it was authentic, possibly great for one night, but wouldn't...

Unfortunately, even if you are used to hostels, a traditional building like that will always be louder. Due to the wooden structure, you hear every movement from upstairs or the staircase. We heard our neighbours talk at ungodly hours, you hear them watching videos on their phones, even literally hear them fart. Unfortunately, we stayed a whole week and for the first half we had neighbours who still talked and moved around until past 1am and then woke up before 7am. We never had a night of peaceful sleep. Hence I really only can recommend it for two days maximum, if you really want to try a traditional place. We had a heated kotatsu, which was a nice experience I've never had before. But because of this, the two futons almost didn't fit the room.

There is only one shower, and two toilets in the little courtyard, though the downstairs room has its own toilet and sink. The little common room is nice. I also think everything was kept as clean as possible and staff seemed to be nice, we only saw them coincidentally at checkout tho. You get your key in a box and have no room service (that I know of), so you barely see anyone, but it is cleaned and trash is...

We would recommend if U like to experience living in a 100years old vintage style Japanese house... N the location just next to the subway n 15mins away from the Gion district Due to the wooden structure, you hear every movement from upstairs or the staircase, going up n down, literally U would hear the next door guests too due to the very thin "paper" wall... There is only one shower, and two toilets in the little courtyard... everything was kept as clean as possible and staff seemed to be nice, we only saw them coincidentally sitting there... You get your key in a box and have no room service, so you barely see anyone, U were all left by Urself but it is cleaned and trash is taken out daily.... They do provide limited porridge on some mornings thou... The only hassle is to go up n down to the toilet, esp in the middle of the night...

I lost my camera at this hostel because i was rushed to leave the hostel very early morning to catch shinkansen for fujiyama. I left the camera with the bag in a bench near entrance door but the hostel's guest relation said they didn't find it although i contacted them soon after I realised that my camera was left there. They also said that cctv was broken, so they cannot see who took/stole my camera which I believe another tourist who stayed there. It was unfortunate and unpleasant stay in this ryokan due to this experience.

If you want to try the traditional Japanese style, you should give this place a try. We really recommend this place. We love our stay here. Also don't forget to try their porridge for breakfast. We love it! This place is close to bus or train station. If you stay here, please try a croquette sold by an elderly couple close to this hotel. The taste was superb! Aah, and please be quiet after 10 pm, because everyone canhear your voice 😅
